Well... Talk about bold. Serena's head jerked up when she heard two relatively loud and rambunctious voices speaking and making it sound as if Jonas were stupid. Well, Jonas certainly wasn't the brightest lightbulb in the world, but he wasn't dorky. A slight smile played at her lips for a few moments while she watched the Huflepuff's siblings sit down.
"Erm... hi," Serena murmured softly as a greeting, unsure of what else to say. Raising her arms, she untied her ponytail and let her hair hang down, cascading past her shoulders and down her back. Taking a slight sip from her butterbeer, she felt the drop of warmth fill her for a few moments.
"Hiiii..." Avery greeted the two, his voice stretching out the single syllable, as he was rather confused. At first glance, he rather liked the two siblings of Jonas. To him, they seemed almost the opposite of Jonas. "D'you happen to like 'em?" Avery asked Jonas, raising his eyebrows as he heard what they had to say about their brother. The relationship between Jonas and his siblings seemed somewhat like the relationship between him and Serena.

Jonas stared at Serena for a moment. He was beginning to be glad that he had asked her to the ball. The Hufflepuff was jolted back to reality by Avery's voice.
"What? Oh, not really," he said, glaring at his sibilngs. "Why, you wanna buy them? I'll give 'em to you really cheap. Only two knuts."
"Hey!" Halley objected.
"We're worth way more that than!" Charlie said. "You're a jerk Johnny."
Jonas winced. "My name's Jonas," he hissed at the two. "Not Johnny."
"We know," Charlie said. Halley finished with, "Johnny just sounds better." She looked at Avery, "Doesn't it? Think about it. Johnny, or Jonas. Be completely honest, you think Jonas is a stupid name."She winked at Avery, grinning widely.

That Halley girl was kind of cute, to tell the truth. Avery gave a wink and a grin back to her, the grin staying on his face. "Johnny or Jonas? Which one's better? Well..." He stopped there, pretending to actually be contemplating over which name was better for Jonas. "...I can't say. Johnny makes him sound like he's three," he finished. Sure, it might sound a little cheesy, but Avery had nothing else to say.
"But I've never seen a name like Jonas before so it's an original name. You could probably just walk down the street and at least one person you walk by is named Johnny," Avery added suddenly with yet another grin, taking a large drink from his butterbeer and setting it back down on the table with a loud noise emitting when the two surfaces hit each other. The lady selling the drinks gave Avery a glare, but Avery just flashed her a smile and then turned his attention back to the table.
"You know, you two, you could consider being a little nicer to Jonas. He hasn't killed you yet, and I'm assuming from your healthy condition that he hasn't hexed you to death yet," Serena remarked in a slightly amused tone, studying Charlie and Halley. She was trying to figure out how they resembled Jonas, but in personality, the two were almost nothing like their older brother.

Halley beamed at Avery, glad he had gone along with what she and Charlie had been saying. "I guess it's original," she admitted, "But it's more fun to torture him. Anyways, what's your name, kid?" She looked at Loria and Serena. "And your names, too, come on, don't be stingy."
Charlie eyed Serena, one eyebrow raised. "He's not doing that well in Charms," he said.
Jonas's fist lashed out and nearly pushed the third year from his seat. Charlie flinched, then laughed. "So we're getting a backbone, hm?" He patted Jonas on the shoulder. "Good for you."
Jonas rolled his eyes and glared at Charlie before looking back at Serena. "Just ignore them, and hopefully they'll go away."

"Kid? I beg to differ, squirt!" Avery responded, mock anger in his voice as if he were offended. Even if they hadn't understood his faking of anger, his grin would've given it away anyway. "Well, I'm Avery," he said with another grin and a nod to emphasize his point of his name being Avery. Wow. Brilliant. Leaning back in his chair, he tilted it backwards slightly against the wall behind him, making sure that he didn't fall. A content expression inhabited the features of his face.
Serena sent a smile in the direction of Jonas. Well, siblings were always like that, weren't they? She paused for a few moments before replying, however, as she simply studied him for a few more moments. You know, he wasn't all that bad; in fact, Serena could get used to having his company around. Her friends might laugh at the fact that he was Hufflepuff, but he wasn't completely stupid. Just kind of... er... slow at times. "That's what I used to say about Avery, but he's still here, isn't he?" she asked, a humorous looking dancing in her eyes.

"Your still in school, aren't you?" Halley asked Avery. "Big tall man doesn't like having a nickname I see." She grinned widely as Charlie reached over Jonas to give her a high five. Their favorite pasttime, picking on older people with usually stupid comments, just to see how long it takes them to crack
Jonas smiled back at Serena after Charlie and Halley had sat back in their proper seats. "Then I guess I'm dead meat, huh?" he joked. "I've got two who won't leave me alone."

"Uhhhh. Duhhh. I'm a seventh year," Avery responded, wagging his head with a large grin displaying his teeth as he took the remarks of Halley and Charlie -- mostly Halley, however -- with a good-natured attitude. "So, pshhh. I'm way more experienced in spell casting than you two are," he said in somewhat of a bragging tone.
"Except poor little Avery fails terribly in Herbology!" Serena cut in, a teasing light in her eyes. "No sense of herbs, no sense of plant life, no sense of anything, I tell you!" Leaning over, she attempted to pat her brother on the head. Finding that he was still a little too tall for her to reach, she stood up and did it, then returned back to her seat.
"Anyway," Serena began, turning back to Jonas, "you ever think of teasing and annoying them back?" She tilted her head to the side, awaiting his answer. "It's really quite easy," she added with a slight nod.

Amelia's brilliant blue eyes flickered across the words of her book as she read, the noises in Hogsmead disappearing as she imagined herself in the class, twirling her wand in a series of complicated moves. Her glossy black hair blew airily around her even though it was in two pigtails, she could just continue to read but the cold was starting to get to her. The teenager look up, her face was a faint pink and her delicate hands felt slightly numb. With a quiet sigh Amelia placed the mini book carefully within her purse before rising. She reached for one of her bands holding her hair in place and took it off, letting the river of silky hair cascaded down her back, and she did the same with the other. Once done Amelia glanced at the shops, seeing which one could be warm and have room. Honeydukes was packed as usual so that was out; in a last decision she was forced in a way to go into the place Avery had went into, if only she never spoken to him. If only, if only.
Amelia began her way over, the snow beneath her crunching as she went, once she reached the door she took a sharp breath before slipping swiftly into the bar, careful not to let any of the warm air to escape. Amelia's crystalline blue eyes flowed over her surroundings, seeing Avery and his bighead with a girl and a boy. They seemed to be chatting happily, a feeling of resentment flashed briefly in her eyes as they rested on the young man again. She walked forward to an empty table and settled down, feeling the warmth seep into her; she smiled to herself ever so slightly.
In her air was a type of loneliness, she watched everyone laugh with each other, slopping firewhiskey or butterbear down their fronts. Amelia blinked and looked away as she ordered a butterbeer herself. Once it arrived she took a small sip, the drink giving her a pleasant feeling, something she didn't want. She sat in the corner, watching everyone else communicate but her, like any of them would want a Slytherin to hang out with, she sighed quietly at this thought.

Loria glared at the twins, a fierce flame in her blue eyes. "Well, I'm Loria," she said shortly. "And you two kids look like you're twins, eh?" she said, emphasizing the word 'kids'. She tossed her blonde hair slightly, the fire's glow making it a rather honey color.

Jonas nodded to Serena. "I've really tried," he said earnestly. "They're like stone. They just don't care. They're both ten times better at witty comebacks than me." He glared at his siblings with mock anger and they flashed a quick smile back before looking abck at Avery and Loria. "I think of comebacks about ten minutes after the argument's over," he admitted. "I'm not the best at thinking quickly with certain things, but with stuff like Magical creatures and Transfiguration I'm pretty good. I'm actually this close to becoming an Animagus." He held up his thumb and forefinger a centimeter apart to illustrate his point. "Plus with the amount of magic these two throw at me in the common room, I'm pretty good at darting around. So I guess that makes up for the inability to think clearly in arguments, Potions, Charms, and pretty much everything else." He realized he had been ranting and closed his mouth with a sheepish grin.
"Well, then, if you're still in school," Halley began, letting Charlie finish her thought with, "then you're still a kid in the eyes of the wizarding world." They grinned triumphantly at Avery, then turned to look at Loria.
"Yeah, we're twins," Charlie said. "Born just minutes apart. Poor mum had it rough, us popping into the world that quickly."
Although Charlie was rather oblivious to Loria's anger (he was oblivious to most anger in other people, other than when he was aiming for it) Halley picked up on Loria's emotion. "Yep," she said, narrowing her eyes at the blonde. She wasn't really liking this girl. Normally people responded to the twins like Avery did, sometimes like Serena. No one showed that they outright disliked the two.
"You know, I once had a toad named Lori," Halley informed the girl. "It got eaten by mine and Charlie's owl." She actually hadn't ever had a toad in her life, except maybe when she was very little and liked playing in mud. She was trying to threaten the girl, trying to metaphorically tell Loria that the twins would team up and make the girl's life a living hell if she got on their bad side.

"Wow. Nice speech," Serena remarked in a good-natured tone, another smile playing at her lips as she reaccted to what Jonas had said.
"Mmmm, I see," Serena responded, giving a slight nod. Well, she should've expected an answer somewhat along those lines from Jonas, eh? "Metaphorically, you're a big mess, aren't you?" she asked, not unkindly. "Well, is there any reason why they're so... erm... willing to give you negativitiy? Like, maybe some childhood grudge? Maybe you by accident squished one of their toy trucks or something? Maybe you bit the head off of one of their favorit stuffed animals, or...?" she added as an inquiry. She knew that her questions were rather silly and not exactly all that logical at all times, but at least this wasn't one of those situations that called for serious and dire questioning needed.
Avery observed the two twins with an amused look, watching as they worked their... erm... charm on Loria. Or, at least, attempted to. Taking another large drink of his butterbeer and letting the warmth flood through him again, he ran his fingers through his hair briefly. His mind, for a few moments, wandered back to this little situation with Mallory, that Slytherin girl. Well, Jonas couldn't quite take her now, could he? Stuck with Serena. Avery felt bad for the poor guy. Charlie here wasn't exactly a possibility either, he being too young for Mallory.
Decisions, decisions.

The Hufflepuff shrugged. "There's nothing I can remember," he told Serena. "I think they're just evil." He grinned widely. "I think I may've gotten them in trouble once or twice. I tell my parents what they do, but only when they really tick me off. Like when they found my father's wand when they were about six, they started goofing off with it and jinxed me. I couldn't use my left hand for a week. We ended up having to go to St. Mungos to see if they could fix my hand. That's probably the only thing they got severely punished for."

"Oh really?" Serena asked, slightly surprised. Then again, this was a Hufflepuff she was speaking to. "Well. Avery and I didn't particularly get along well. We were always teasing each other and hitting each other and when we got our wands, we were always threatening to hex each other. It was actually pretty fun, to tell the truth. Now, however, I think we've changed--" Serena got cut off here by Avery's voice coming in to the conversation.
"Oh yeah, we've changed! Me and Serena are just best buds right now, aren't we, 'Rena?" Avery said with a grin, reaching up and laying his left arm on top of Serena's head, using her head as an armrest, and also telling her again that she was short, without verbal use. "We get along just perfectly fine now," he added, giving a thumbs up.
"--And yet, we haven't. Now, Jonas, if you'll excuse me, I have to do something to Avey right now..." Serena muttered. "I swear, Avery. If you don't stop doing that -- I know I'm short -- I'm going to either hex you or bite you. It's your choice," she hissed quite audibly to Avery.
"Hey. Jonas. Have fun with 'Rena at the dance, won't you?" Avery said to Jonas with a grin after hearing Serena's threats.

Jonas nodded to Avery, a slight blush tinting his cheeks. "I bet we'll have fun, s'long as I don't act like you," he said. He grinned at the other boy, showing he was just kidding.
"What was that?" Halley asked suddenly. She sat up, looking like a meerkat who had just heard a predator's approach.
Charlie sat on the other side of Jonas looking very like his sister. "I think," he said slowly, as if he was thinking through each word, "Jonas was just trying to make a joke... Congratulations! Your very first attempt at teasing! We're so proud!"
Both twins hugged their older brother before he pushed them away, rolling his eyes. "Shut up," he muttered to the two. He was thinking about asking Serena, Loria, and Avery if they wanted to get away from his siblings, but he realized that the two would just follow.

Loria managed to stay calm about what the twins said to her. If she showed she was angry, it would just satisfy them. "Hm, well, too bad. Must've been a nice, pretty toad for such a pretty name," Loria said coolly, lifting a hand to pull some hair back behind her ear.
