"I'd say that you'd get used to it, but I guess that kind of fails to apply in this situation, eh, Jonas?" Avery asked with a grin, staying satisfied with just using Serena's shoulder as an armrest instead of her head, so as to not infuriate her that much that she would literally start with her wand. After all, although the two were equal in their spellmanship and were able to cast spells with equal skill and power, Serena had a little bit better accuracy at hitting targets -- especially moving ones like him when he ran away from her spells.
"Six years like this and we still haven't stopped annoying each other to death. That is, Avery hasn't stopped annoying me to death," Serena added with a smile playing at her lips as she attempted to curl her arm around and rest it on Avery's shoulder, although it was a bit difficult, due to the fact that he was a lot taller than her.

Halley glared at Loria when she didn't get the desired reaction from the girl. What's wrong with her? she thought to herself. She's too vain.
Charlie on the other hand still hadn't realized Loria's feelings. "So, Loria," he said cheekily, "You got a date for the ball? 'Cos I'm single." He winked at the girl.
Jonas watched Avery and Serena as they picked on each other and smiled. "You at least seem to get along sometimes," he pointed out. "Like now. You seem almost as if you can tolerate each other at the moment. Chuck and Halley get along, but me an' them don't really. There are sometimes though. Like when I'm getting particularly good with my Animagus practice and grow teeth. Then they're nicer." He laughed to himself.

"Chuck. Pshhhhh. Nice one, Jonas," Avery said with a grin. His arm somehow found its way on to Serena's head again, once again using it as an armrest. He felt Serena shift in to a position in which she could glare at him, a single eyebrow raised in a questioning tone as if asking him if he really dared to replay the whole scene again of her getting ticked off at him. When he responded with just another grin, Serena shook her head and exhaled a deep sigh of exassperation.
"Avery. Stop using my head as your armrest. Just because you think it's so funny and that you have an advantage of height and I know that I'm shorter than you and you're just too da--" Serena cut herself off her for a few brief moments, collecting herself from her passionately irritated state and forcing herself not to slip in to language that could only befall on her brother. "--rn annoying!" she finished, making sure to finish her word with 'rn.'
"'Rena gets a little worked up 'bout these things, no?" Avery said to Jonas, flashing a grin and wink to the Hufflepuff. Still, he removed his arm from its position on Serena's head.

The corners of Loria's mouth curved up in a slight smile of satisfaction at Halley's anger.
She turned her aqua colored eyes towards Charlie, and looked surprised. Charlie was always going along with her sister, why had he asked her to the dance? Besides, she hated both of them. They were mean to Jonas, her best friend's date to the dance, plus, Charlie wasn't all that good looking, with his bowl shaped haircut, and they were both annoying and mean. Also, they were several years younger than her.
"Er, sorry...I kind of had someone else in mind," Loria answered, feeling a bit awkward now.

Halley grinned at Loria and Charlie as the younger boy made the older girl uncomfortable. If Charlie had planned that, Halley loved him ten times more now.
Charlie hadn't planned to make her uncomfortable. He was just flirting, something he picked up as a hobby a while back, when he wasn't hanging around with his sister. "Cool," he said grinning. "Anyone I know? He's taller'n me, isn't he?" He pretended to pout, then grinned, showing Loria that he was just kidding.
Halley looked at Charlie in disbelief. He seemed to actually want to be friends with Loria. She caught the teasing glimmer in his eyes, and realized that he just wanted someone to torture.
Jonas smiled softly to Avery. "Well," he said, "She's got you for a brother." He glanced at Charlie and Halley, hoping they wouldn't freak out again. "Besides, maybe that's just how she is. And I like that part about her." He blushed slightly, but forced the color to drain back out of his face so his cheeks were the same shade they normally were.

"Well, yeah, considering he's my age," Loria said lightly. "I mean, you're just a third year. Maybe you should try someone in your league?" she said, then immediately wanting to take it back. She hadn't meant to sound rude, she just didn't wanting to give Halley the satisfaction of making her uncomfortable. She looked away, then at Avery. Maybe he would go to the dance with her?
Theo looked at Mallory. "Er... so... Hows it like to be in Slytherin?" he asked, really wondering if being in Slythering was any different than being in Gryffindor.

Casting her eyes downward out of embarrassment, a slight crimson color brushed Serena's cheeks, standing out in somewhat of a contrast against her skin tone. "Well. In that case, everything's all good, I guess, right?" she managed to get out as a warm feeling spread over her, causing a smile to play on her lips gently.
"Awwwww. You lovebirds," Avery remarked with a grin, crossing his arms across his chest. His eyes briefly looked over at Serena, seeing her face redden slightly. As he watched that scene, something clicked in his mind. He'd never seen Serena act like that before, for she wasn't like some of the other girls, being infatuated with the first cute boy they came up to. As he saw this, a rush of protectiveness engulfed him and he looked back at Jonas. Was Jonas a person he could really trust to take care of his sister and not let anything happen to her? Although Avery didn't like to think about doubt, he couldn't help the fact that it had currently crossed his mind.

"It's just the same as it is in Gryffindor and all the other houses. Nothing's absolutely different. We don't concoct potions day and night. We lead normal lives. Most of us, anyway," Mallory answered in a matter-of-fact tone mixed with somewhat of a wistful sounding voice. "How's it like to be in Gryffindor?" she asked quickly, wanting to get the subject off of Slytherins.

Jonas let the color burn his cheeks again. "Shuddup Avery," he murmured. "What about you? You still gonna talk about Mallory?" He glanced at Serena, hoping she wouldn't get angry with Jonas for bringing up the- Slytherin? yeah- Slytherin girl. He was beginning to really like Serena. They got along pretty well, and it didn't hurt that she was pretty.

"Suuu-uuu-ure," Avery said in an easy and noncalant tone of voice, stretching the word out over more than one syllable. In truth, he was trying to act as if he didn't care so that the topic wasn't brought up again and sparks flew between him and Serena out of frustration and irritation. "I'll talk to her," he added and gave a shrug, casually taking another drink of his butterbeer. Even though he acted regular on the outside, his thoughts were thrown in to turmoil, mixing in with his slight doubts about Jonas. Mallory? Can I trust Jonas to take care of 'Rena? What am I going to do about Mallory? These thoughts all mixed together, making it rather hard for him to contemplate clearly.
At the mention of the blond-haired Slytherin girl, Serena winced slightly and flinched as if the words stung her, but her easy-going demeanor going, yet she felt rather ticked off at the fact that Avery was acting so easy. Not particularly trusting herself to speak in case she burst out in ranting against Avery again, Serena sat back in her chair, crossing her arms and looking at Avery, a eyebrows raised in a questioning manner.
