Jeez, could this girl talk. Saffron was amazed at how long she could go on for without hardly taking a breath. "Oh. Um, cool. So you've been horseback riding?" Saffron asked, something finally sparking her interest. To Jay she said, "You like soccer? Cool. I play a little, but mostly I horseback ride." She lifted up a hand, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear, then gave Jay a small smile. She wondered if he liked horseback riding. Maybe...
"So... Um, d'you like reading?" she continued, trying to make conversation. "Wow, I'm awful at this," Saffron said to Jay, half joking.

Alice blinked, watching for a brief moment as Saffron and Jay experienced some sort of... uhh... how to put it? Mental connection? Sure, why not. It was rather odd, as she noticed them exchanging slight smiles and quick glances. A sly smile slid across her face, but she was careful to mask it behind her normal appearance so as to not give away that she had acknowledged the momentary connections between the two.
Absent-mindedly, she answered Saffron's question. "About four years, going on five," she responded in a light, easy-going tone as she leaned back against a locker, lightly drumming the fingers on her right hand against them. Briefly, she looked down at her hands and made a mental note to repaint the black nail polish already there, which was beginning to chip off. If there was one thing that you needed to know about Alice besides the fact that she was near crazy, it would be that she was an extreme perfectionist, allowing her to get annoyed with the slightest flaw in her apperance, and allowing her to get irritated with a flaw like a little chip in her nail polish.
Jay returned Saffron's smile, even allowing for a chuckle as she attempted to start a part of the conversation on her own. At the question of reading, Jay exhaled, exasperation flitting about in his mind. Of course she somehow just had to ask the thing he didn't want to own up to. "No, not really," he said, lying. This was a trait he didn't particularly like about himself -- he was a brilliant liar. It was probably due to the fact that he was so quiet, which made no one really know what his true demeanor and composure was.

Saffron smiled to Alice. "Awesome. I've been riding since... I guess since I could walk," she said. "My dad owns a small stable," Saffron added, trying not to sound like she was bragging, because she wasn't. "If you want, you could come over there and ride sometime. And you too Jay, if you're interested," she said to them.
She glanced over at Alice, and caught a quick, sly smile. Saffron blushed, because she guessed that she smiled to herself was because Saffron was talking to Jay.
"No, no not really," Jay had said. Saffron thought he was the kind of person who did read. Maybe he wasn't. Saffron didn't really know him. "I see," she said, nodding."Well, I like reading anyway. But whatever," she added, with another little smile at Jay.

ALICE ♥ IT'S ALL GOOD. "Sure. Sounds great -- maybe after a game or a track meet or whatever I have that random day," Alice responded in a breezy tone, her gaze drifting away from the two she was currently conversing with. Her eyes moved back toward the two, and that was when she made the decision to leave the two alone. No, it wasn't abandonment, but she felt as if she were intruding on something... somehow, some way. Pushing herself from leaning back on a locker, she ran her fingers through her hair again.
"All right, well -- uhh... I've gotta go. Physics notes to study, stuff for algebra-- geometry-- calc-- or is is trig? Whatever, some type of math, you get the point..." Alice said in a hurried rush as her big excuse. Darting off back to her locker, she sat down in front of it, leaning back against it and began studying her notes. She only processed half of the information she received, however, as she kept on glancing up to see how Saffron and Jay were doing.
Her locker was in the correct position to... well, spy. It was around the corner, allowing for her to see toward them, but not giving away her status immediately. It was pretty interesting, this. Now all she needed was for the world to deem wearing sunglasses indoor as not creepy, and she would be good.
Leaning her head back against the coolness of the metal door to her locker, she took out her iPod, changing the song.
"You make me feel... out of my element... Like I'm walking on broken glass... Like my world's spinnin' in slow motion, and you're moving too fast..."
Let's just leave it at that, shall we?
JAY ♥ CONFUSED&BEMUSED
Jay gave a start as Alice began all of a sudden to jump up and spout out a bunch of excuses before disappearing. That was rather... odd. Normally she would stay and help fill out the conversation. Not only was this rather weird behavior for Alice, it was also slightly unfortunate for him, as now, he was going to have issues keeping a good conversation going. As he tried to salvage something to say, he gave a slight shrug to Saffron's invitation to horseback riding, and also flashed a smile back toward her.
Ugh. What could he say? He made a mental note to go after and interrogate Alice later, but right now, he had to figure something out. Fun. "I don't... uhh... hate reading, but it's not something I do too frequently," Jay said. Well, that was true -- he didn't always have his nose stuck in a book, now did he?
"Alice is one heck of a weird person," Jay muttered, giving a rueful smile. Where exactly had she gone? She had turned the corner, and she had just basically... disappeared. Interesting. He made another mental note to figure out where her little hiding spot was -- but now he needed to focus on being able to carry out a decent amount of talking in order to not completely bore Saffron. Still... he honestly had no idea whatsoever of what he could say.
"I'm... uhh... sorry. I'm not really good at having huge conversations with people," Jay admitted quietly. "I usually let Alice do all the talking," he added in a slight joking tone, shrugging again.

Saffron watched as Alice went, now feeling awkward now that Alice was gone. Luckily, Jay could think of something to say before she had to. "Mhm," she replied to Jay saying he didn't hate reading. "Me neither. Good time passer, though," she added, giving a small laugh.
"Alice is one heck of a weird person," Jay had muttered. Well, that had been established a while ago. She was nice, but a bit odd. Oh well.
"Um, yeah, I'm not that great at it either," Saffron said to Jay, giving him an apologetic smile. "Uhm...lets see..... Do you play any instruments?" she asked, trying to make small conversation. She ran her fingers through her hair, the light catching on her black nail polish.

ALICE ♥ SECRET AGENT GIRL.
Mhmm... Well, nothing really interesting of the sort was going on. Alice tilted her head to the side, still listening to her music. As more and more people filtered in to the building, she tried to resist the urge to sing out loud: she would save that surprise for another time. Then again, half the people knew about Alice and her singing. Maybe they'd forgotten about it over the summer. Hah.
"The night before... life goes on," she murmured softly, out of key (obviously). Hugging her knees to her chest, she rested her head on her knees, brushing a lock of her hair out of her eyes. Her gaze continued to drift sometimes toward the notebook laying on the floor, but she wasn't exactly taking in too much of the information.
JAY ♥ AWKWARRRD, NO?
"Instruments? Oh, no... not really. I'm not exactly that musically talented," Jay responded in an awkward voice as he tried to think of something to talk about while still answering the question posed in front of him. "Do you play anything besides your guitar?" he asked back, feeling a slight relief when he was able to get the question out. Now all that was left was to listen and wait for her reply... and to think of something else to say after she replied.
Conversations weren't simple in their build: it was just give and take, give and take. But it was hard when you weren't someone who talked a lot like Alice. How did she do it? It was rather odd -- some people could just endlessly talk on and on. Was it genetic, or was it just something picked up from somewhere? Whatever it was, it certainly mystified Jay.

"Um, yeah. I play piano," Saffron told Jay. Now, how awkward was this? Very awkward. Now that Alice was gone, there was nobody to fill in the silences between questions and answers.
"What kind of music do you like? I mean, if you...listen to music," said. "You do listen to music...don't you?" she asked. Yes, it was kind of a silly question to ask, bu who knows, maybe some people don't listen to music. She reached up and flipped her hair back ever so slightly to get it out of her way, waiting for Jay's answer.

ALICE ♥ INSPECTAH GADGET! {BAM!}
Alice didn't want to admit it, but this was rather... dull. There was really no other way to put it. She had expected something to happen, but it was obvious that the two weren't going to do much but exchange some discreet words before going their seperate ways until they met up again. Exhaling deeply, she gave a mental shrug in her mind. Jay would have to fight his way for this one -- she wouldn't just intrude back in. She would wait and see, even if it was pretty boring.
Drumming the fingers on her right hand against the linoleum floors of the school, she tapped her foot lightly against the ground. Being alone was rather unusual for Alice, but in truth, she didn't mind it every once in a while. Being alone helped her think, and it helped her spy a lot better, as she was allowed to think for herself and not have to worry about someone else trying to help her. Very nice.
JAY ♥ MAKE A DASH?
"I listen to music, sure," Jay responded with a shrug. "Classical." With that short response, he immediately shut his mouth, not sure of what else to say. This was getting more and more uncomfortable, but he wasn't exactly sure when was the correct time to make an excuse to leave. He inhaled and exhaled deeply, his eyes wandering around the area, seeing more people come in. Crowds were forming -- good. He didn't want to be followed around if he decided to jet.
"All right -- cool. Well, I can see that this has been extremely weird for both of us--" he paused here to flash a slight smile, trying to make his sudden need for disappearance seem as subtle as possible. "--and I've gotta go. Sorry. So... uhh... I'll see you around." With that, he began walking at a brisk pace, waving over his shoulder and narrowly missing tripping over a backpack placed in a very inconvenient spot in the middle of the hall.

[[SAFF ♥-- OUCHH]]
"Classical," Saffron echoed Jay. "Interesting." But before she knew it, Jay was saying good bye. "Uhm, okay..." she said, but Jay was already leaving. Was it something she said? did he just hate her for asking so many questions? Great. She just ruined a chance to have a friend.
"You can come... come over sometime if you want," she called ofter him as he was leaving, almost tripping over a backpack in the middle of the hallway.
Saffron sighed and went to look for Alice, who was at her locker, the next row over. "Alice," she began. "Why did Jay just leave? Does he hate me or something?" Saffron asked her, hoping she would know the answer. "I mean, not that I mind or anything," she added quickly, making sure that she didn't sound like she liked him--which was a complete lie.

ALICE ♥ TELL IT LIKE IT IS
Alice looked up as she heard footsteps approaching in her direction. Seeing Saffron, a smile flickered across her face. However, she wondered why it was just Saffron, without Jay. Where had Jay gone? Tilting her head in wonder, she listened to Saffron's questions. Odd...? Jay had left? What? Oh, man -- that boy was going to need a serious talking to later. Rolling her eyes in exasperation toward Jay, she paused her iPod from playings its music in order to respond.
"Naw, Jay doesn't dislike you -- in fact, I think it's the opposite. Like... he really likes you...?" At this moment, Alice couldn't help but flash a grin, which displayed the top row of her pearly white teeth. "But anyway, I don't think it really has anything to do with you. He's really shy, and it takes a lot for him to keep a good conversation going. Sometimes he tends to really get nervous, and he just bails out on you. It's pretty weird, though. With me, he doesn't do that -- I guess that's because I keep talking and talking and talking and talking, and..." She trailed off here. Taking a deep breath, she started again, but there wasn't exactly much else to say. "You see what I'm saying here?" she asked, the grin still lighting up the features on her face.
She tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, a nonchalant manner of movement. "So..." she began after completing her full explanation, waiting for Saffron to respond. Alice could easily expect a reply of relief from Saffron -- which would probably be an extra clue of evidence that Saffron rather... liked Jay.

Saffron blinked in surprise at Alice's words. "He...he likes me?" she asked. No, no, no, no, Jay couldn't possibly like her. Really. She had been acting like an idiot the whole time she was talking to him, and he liked her?
As this piece of information sunk in, she couldn't help but smile a little, a flash of marmoreal whiteness showing up in her mouth. "But anyway, I don't think it really has anything to do with you. He's really shy, and it takes a lot for him to keep a good conversation going. Sometimes he tends to really get nervous, and he just bails out on you. It's pretty weird, though. With me, he doesn't do that -- I guess that's because I keep talking and talking and talking and talking, and..."
"Oh," was all Saffron could reply to this. So Jay was shy... Like her. She just thought he didn't like her. He just ditched her because he was ... shy?

ALICE ♥ LUCKY QUACKER
"You lucky duck," Alice told Saffron in a teasing, lighthearted tone. "Just the beginning of the first few days of school, and you've already got a little sweetheart to start obsessing over. Very suave." The grin that had been flashed before still remained, and the honest happiness she felt for Saffron was genuine. Suddenly, Alice's face got serious as she began to think of other things. "Listen... if you ever happen to need help about Jay -- and this includes fashion issues, too -- just come to me. I'll always be here and I'll tell the person I'm talking to to shut up, if that's what it takes," the female promised Saffron, giving reassurance just in case the other girl was feeling a little... weird about this position.
Alice leaned her head back on her locker again. "Ahhh... I can see it -- the sweet making of young love blossoming in the air... Just wait until the spring -- then it'll really be complete," she sighed, as if she were lovestruck with the idea of her newfound friend liking someone else. It was... awesome. There were really no other ways to put it.

"I am not obsessing over him!" Saffron protested, feeling rather defensive for a moment. "I just... like him A little. But seriously, would he like me? He couldn't." To show how silly she thought the idea was, she shook her head. But maybe... it wasn't. Maybe he would ask her out. No. No, he wouldn't. They had just met. And Saffron surely did not have the guts to ask him out.
"And how about you?" Saffron asked, changing the subject. "Haven't you got your eye one someone? Hmmm?" Saffron smiled slyly at Alice, awaiting her answer.

ALICE ♥ QUESTIONABLE
"You stuttering right now just kind of points all fingers at you obsessing, but I'll shut up for now about that," Alice remarked, giving a slight shrug. She ran her fingers through her hair again -- out of habit. A smile still lingered on her face at the thought of Saffron denying the subject of becoming too fond of Jay, but she understood. It was normal to get nervous like that, and it was normal for people to try to deny things when they truly found someone that they... well, liked. Loved. Whatever you wanted to say. Someone that made them feel special.
At Saffron's question, the female teen gave a slight shrug of her shoulders. "Oh, not really," she responded in a light tone, not particularly sure herself. She wasn't exactly boy crazy, nor had she exactly found someone who she liked in that special way. Sure, she was friends and acquaintances with a number of guys -- and they were pretty cool, too. Still, she didn't exactly think of any of them in that way -- just as friends.

Tonight will be the night that I will fall for you... Footsteps could be heard coming down the hallway. Closer, closer. The footsteps belonged to Wes Price, a fifteen and a half year old sophomore (I think...). Looking around with bright blue-green eyes, he spotted his best friend Saffron, with... Alice? Alice Stoler?
He would never admit it to anyone, but he had a huge thing for Alice. The way her hair shone in the light, her bright blue eyes, her outgoing and bubbly personality. He just liked her in general. But he was rather shy, and wouldn't have the courage to ask her, let alone any girl out.
He was pretty quiet, but would speak out if needed. He wasn't amazing at making conversations with people he didn't know that well, because he usually ended up asking weird questions or not really talking at all. Most of his free time was spent listening to his iPod, sculpting, sketching, playing his guitar or bass, or skateboarding. He didn't really have any close friends besides Saff, but he did have friends that he hung out with sometimes.
Currently, he was waring a black T-shirt bearing a very faded British flag and a pair of dark blue jeans. His dark, almost black hair was hanging slightly into his eyes, obscuring his view a bit. he blew them out of the way and kept walking, his black skate shoes making faint thuds on the ground.
As he got closer, he could make out the details of the two girls. Saffron' shady green eyes, Alice's light brown hair and delicate face features. Saffron's expression - a sly grin - as they talked. Alice was saying something right now. "Oh, not really," Hmmm. What could that be? Not really to what? Wes wondered this as he got even closer. "Hey..." he said, lifting his hand to wave at the two girls. He smiled at both girls, glancing at Alice before he returned his gaze to Saffron. over again, don't make me change my mind.
