Maplestar shook his head. "Not that I can think of," he meowed. "Besides, with more cats we'll scare off the prey." He chuckled softly, but his mind did flick back to Crystalrose. He wasn't sure if she still wanted to speak to him. She had seemed pretty upset a while ago, and they hadn't talked since.
He was about to ask Dovefeather why she had said something about 'stupid', but he turned and bristled at the strange cat that had suddenly appeared. "You are an intruder," he informed the she-cat. "You came in here unnanounced and without my or my Clan's permission. Why do you want to join this Clan? Why not SkyClan up on the ridge? And why should we trust you?" His mind flicked to Eagledance, and yes, his own father. If a Clan member would slip up like that, why should he allow this she-cat to join his Clan?
He eyed the she-cat critically. Perhaps she would make a good warrior. She might make a good spy as well, for another Clan trying to find EarthClan's secrets.
Maplestar was suddenly struck with the fact that he had become incredibly suspicious since Bear had appeared and Eagledance had made the simple (and not severely punishable) mistake of talking to a SkyClan cat. Maplestar could barely believe it was him talking.
He turned his attention back to the she-cat, his thoughts flicking from subject to subject in a matter of seconds.

Flightsong could see the suspicion in his eyes. But she could also see that he was upset, and was worrying about something. The leader had said something about SkyClan, and Flightsong knew there was another Clan nearby.
"I'm sorry if I am intruding," Flightsong said patiently. "But I come from a Clan very far from here, in the mountains, and they have been destroyed. I do not wish to be a rouge, and I would very much love to be in a Clan again." The white she-cat bowed her head to show respect for the older, and much bigger cat. "I know you have much to deal with right now, and I am just a mere disturbance, but if you would just consider letting me into your Clan, I would appreciate it greatly." And even though the she-cat spoke slowly and politely, her grey eyes glittered with hope.

"You are an intruder. You came in here unannounced and without my or my Clan's permission. Why do you want to join this Clan? Why not SkyClan up on the ridge? And why should we trust you?"
Dovefeather glared at the unknown she-cat, her back arching, "Don't you know not to come in to a Clan of cats ready to drive you out?" She asked slowly, eying her suspiciously, her fur bristling at the sudden intrusion. "Besides... how do we know you lived in some far off Clan? We don't just let random cats come in here and join in knowing they could be trying to deceive us!" The white feline's thoughts flickered back to when she was a mere five moons old, stumbling along until an EarthClan warrior brought her to this wonderful Clan. That was a different situation though, she was a harmless kittypet kit and the queens were happy to nurse her back to health. This she-cat didn't look harmless with her muscled hind legs. To be honest, she looked rather dangerous.
Dovefeather's gaze hardened defensively.
The white feline glanced at Maplestar, whom seemed to be angry and lost in thought all at the same time, she quickly looked back the strange she-cat and let out a quiet hiss. What did she expect them to do? Agree and move on with their happy lives? No. They had to figure out everything about her before even thinking about letting her join EarthClan. Dovefeather lashed her tail, her eyes narrowing menacingly. She was pretty okay at hunting but fighting she was fairly good at, her light figure gave her an advantage at quickness. This loner had a good will at jumping much higher than Dovefeather. If it came to a fight to drive her out of EarthClan territory, it would be an interesting one at that.

The white she-cat couldn't help but bristle her fur at the other cat's words. But soon, her fur lay flat on her lean figure. If this cat had waltzed right into her old Clan camp, she would be hostile too. Flightsong sighed. "I know you don't want me here, and I know I look like some dangerous rouge cat. But I am not. I'm just a Clan cat, like the two of you. My name is Flightsong," she said, her voice clear and firm. She wanted so much to be in a Clan again. She looked around and saw how all the cats bonded with one another, and worked together. She wished she was back in her old Clan sharing tongues in the warriors den with her Clanmates, or going for a walk with her old mate. Sadness filled her eyes, and she now looked defeated and upset. Maplestar glared at the she-cat until she started looking upset and dejected. His gaze softened and he touched Dovefeather's shoulder gently with his tail. A sudden idea came to mind. One that would hopefully put him in the good graces of this she-cat and a certain tom warrior...
"Flightsong," he meowed, "I will make a deal with you. I will allow you to join our Clan on two conditions: First, you will have to swear before all the Clan that you will remain loyal to EarthClan for the rest of your life. Second, you will have an escort for a quarter moon. My warrior Eagledance will keep you out of trouble."
Perhaps this wasn't a good idea. Letting a stranger into the Clan may upset some cats. And maybe Eagledance wouldn't like being a babysitter to a she-cat. But if he could show the warrior that he trusted him, maybe Eagledance would forgive him for the barbaric way he had treated him a while ago.

With a light touch from Maplestar, Dovefeather dipped her head in reverence before forcing her fur to lie flat. Exhaling deeply, her azure eyes flickered up to Flightsong's face but even so they were narrowed to slits. The white feline had a spark to her whenever it involved protecting her Clanmates, her calm daydreaming self was present but hidden beneath prowled an angry cat always ready for the fight. Dovefeather's ears twitched as Maplestar began to speak.
"Flightsong, I will make a deal with you. I will allow you to join our Clan on two conditions: First, you will have to swear before all the Clan that you will remain loyal to EarthClan for the rest of your life. Second, you will have an escort for a quarter moon. My warrior Eagledance will keep you out of trouble."
The she-cat turned to look at her leader with shock, "Maplestar... we barely know her... could she not sleep in camp until her escorting has been completed?" Dovefeather murmured, anxiousness glinting in her eyes as she drew close enough to whisper to her leader's ear."Is she going to eat from the fresh-kill pile too? It's leafbare and... and meal are hard to come by." She continued, her fur prickling with dislike to the fact that an unknown rouge was going to be living among them. Dovefeather trusted Maplestar as much as she trusted StarClan but sometimes she didn't always agree to his plans.
Now for example.

Maplestar hushed the she-cat before continuing. "My warrior has a point," he meowed to Flightsong. "You will hunt for your own meals. We have older warriors who have lived here all their lives, and I will not put a newcommer before my most trusted companions." His eyes glinted. "Be warned. If you betray my trust- or anyone's in this Clan for that matter- StarClan knows what will happen to you." What a suspicious mouse-brain he had become. He could hardly recognize himself.
Feeling eyes on his back again, his fur bristled slightly. "Bear," he called, without taking his eyes off the she-cat. "Come meet Flightsong." The enormous tabby got to his feet and trotted to his son's side. "Bear, this is Flightsong, Flightsong, this is Bear. Bear is my father. He will show you around until you meet up with Eagledance. As for myself, Dovefeather and I have a hunt to go on."
He flicked his tail at his warrior, glancing back at her for a moment before trotting casually out of the entrance. "Flightsong will sleep in the camp," he meowed over his shoulder to Dovefeather, "but in the camp. Not in one or any of the dens. I won't have a potentially loyal warrior sleep in fear of foxes." He sighed softly to himself, not realizing his tail and whiskers drooped slightly. Things suddenly got difficult very quickly. He didn't understand why everything couldn't have stayed simple. No one was fighting, everyone was getting along, SkyClan kept to their drafty ridge, EarthClan cats were well fed. Tensions were running high with so many EarthClan mouths to feed.
.x.
Bear watched his son walk out of camp, dipping his head in respect shown to a leader and to Dovefeather- her being a she-cat and all. "Well miss Flightsong," he meowed pleasantly. "How d'you do? As he said, I'm Bear. I guess you're stuck with me for now." He chuckled softly and stretched a bit, before sitting down again.

Flightsong was only a bit startled by the huge tomcat only having one eye, and him being, well, huge and all. She actually felt comforted by his presence, as if he was guarding her from everything.
"I'm fine," the she-cat spoke softly, her ears picking up a slightly different accent from hers. "And you?" she asked, a small, but cold breeze ruffling her long glossy fur. She shivered and got up. "I think I'll go hunt for myself," she added, mostly speaking to herself. "Would you like to come?" she added politely to the big tabby tom.

Bear shrugged. "Guess it's my duty, now isn't it?" he meowed sensibly. "I wouldn't mind stretching my legs though, and the company of a nice cat doesn't hurt." He purred softly, getting to his feet. "Shall I lead the way miss Flightsong? You being new and all."
He yawned with his jaws only slightly parted, attempting to be polite around this she-cat. He was polite around any she-cat, calling them 'miss', making sure his coat was well groomed, watching what he said. He would never call a cat a 'piece of carrion eating fox dung' around a she-cat. Around a tom, maybe, if he got riled up, but never in front of a she-cat.
He waited patiently for the she-cat to answer, his head turned slightly so that he could see her. Dang it all, if his remaining eye wasn't working, he would've been lost and unable to do anything. Whoever heard of a blind warrior? Honestly... He thanked StarClan for his remaining eye, keeping that one trained on the she-cat.

Flightsong nidded her head. "Alright, lets go," she meowed to the polite cat. To her, he was what you could call a 'gentle giant'. she was a pretty slender and small she-cat, but he was rather large. But he was very nice and polite to her.
The white she-cat walked on, picking up her pace until she was at a run in the Ridge, her light paw steps not even audible on the layer of frost on the ground. After a while, she stopped, forgetting that Bear was supposed to be leading. Breathing heavily, she sat down and waited for the tabby tom. After all, she wasn't too far away from camp.

At least she wasn't going to eat from the fresh-kill pile. We really need that for the Clan. Dovefeather flicked her tail, her ears pricked as she listened to the conversation before Maplestar finally assigned Bear to Flightsong and began to walk away. The white she-cat smiled briefly at Maplestar's father before trotting after her leader, casting the rouge a glare as she went by. Her long fox-like tail disappeared as she slipped through the entrance. As the she-cat trailed along, her blue orbs where on her paws, then Maplestar began to speak to her. Dovefeather lifted her head and gazed at her leader; letting his words sink in.
"Flightsong will sleep in the camp. But not in one or any of the dens. I won't have a potentially loyal warrior sleep in fear of foxes."
Dovefeather nodded swiftly before replying, "That's good. I was just thinking about the camp. Better to scare away a squirrel then to let in a badger," she quoted, remembering the old nursery rhyme. "Well, I think she did fairly well outside of a protectional clearing. I'm sure she has little fear of foxes," the feline paused and murmured quietly to herself, "with powerfull legs like those." Shaking her head she bounded forward to be able to stand beside Maplestar, "Anyway, I think we should go to the nut tree. Prey will do anything for a meal, even risk going outside of it's burrow." She smiled as she breathed in the wintery air.
