Oakheart have Lilacpaw a rough swipe with his tongue to ressure her he was okay too. The tabby tom then glanced at Songbreeze with amusement in his eyes. "Typical" he meowed then stretched his legs each in turn. His muscles rippling under his pelt as he did so.
With a gusty sigh he began to groom hiself, smoothing the new untamed fur from the crash with the apprentice. His amber eyes glinted from the sunlight. First thing on his list was to go out and hunt then return and have a little something to eat. Next, most likely, he was to hang out with Songbreeze but if needed he'd go out on sunhigh patrol.

"I'm sorry, Oakheart. Really, I didn't mean it, it's just that the leaves are so slippery and crunchy and wet and I slipped and I can't help it, and I'm sorry, and I'll make it up to you somehow!" Lilacpaw babbled, although she meant just one thing -- an apology towards Oakheart. If you had first met Lilacpaw, her talkative-ness would've made you go insane, but if you had lived with her for a long period of time, you slowly developed the ability to understand what she was trying to say, without the extra added words.
Songbreeze looked at the she-cat apprentice, her eyes glittering with being humored. "It's all right," she assured the apprentice again, rasping her tongue lightly over Lilacpaw's right ear. "We won't kill you just for doing that. Besides, it isn't really all your fault -- leaf-fall makes the leaves wet like this."

Battooth skittered back into camp and slid to a stop. He glared down at the leaves, hating how mouse-brained he looked when he ran on wet leaves. He looked around camp, spotting Maplestar grooming his tabby pelt near the Highrock and his den. "We're back Maplestar!" the obsidian tom called. Maplestar flicked his ears to show that he had heard but didn't look up. Battooth glared across the clearing at his old mentor. Battooth wanted someone to talk to, and Maplestar would ignore his former apprentice unless someone who could protect the tabby leader from the endless words and jokes and insanity that came out of Battooth's mouth.
Battooth trotted across the clearing to Oakheart, Songbreeze, and Lilacpaw. "Hello," he meowed pelasantly, the bounce in his step returning as he approached cats who he could talk to. Unless they ran away. Which some cats did, like Mistheart when the siblings had been apprentices and she just wasn't feeling up for her brother.

"Hiya, Battooth!" Lilacpaw responded eagerly to the tomcat warrior's greeting, already letting the apologies for bowling into the two warriors slip away. She bounced up and down with delight and of course, her usual energy. Her tail flicked back and forth with anticipation as she waited for the black pelted warrior to respond.
"Hello, Battooth," Songbreeze answered, obviously calmer and more refined than Lilacpaw was. While Songbreeze was a small, compact cat, Lilacpaw was full of nervous and loose energy that caused her to flutter about like a nervous bird with energy.

Battooth beamed at the young apprentice. They were a bit alike, he realized. "Hi Lilacpaw!" he meowed, meeting the exotic-colored eyes that had given the apprentice her name. "How are you? How's training coming along?" He swatted at her ears playfully, crouching low to the ground, looking for all the world like a kit with littermates.

"Well, training would be nicer if I had a mentor!" Lilacpaw chirruped in response, trying to remind the tomcat warrior that she didn't have a mentor yet. She deeply wished for one so that she could train with an experienced warrior and become one of the greatest warriors of all time.
"Say, do you think that /you/ could be my mentor?" she asked, glee spreading through her at the thought. She wanted a mentor that was a good warrior and that she could easily keep up with -- or perhaps it was vice versa as well -- and who wouldn't be too strict or too harsh on her.

Battooth's tail flicked back and forth with excitement. "That's a great idea!" he meowed. "Then cats would take me more seriouser!" His eyes glittered with the happiness in that he had just made a feeble joke, and the fact that Lilacpaw could in fact be his very first apprentice. "I'll ask Maplestar," he meowed distractedly.
The obsidian warrior raced across the clearing and stopped in front of Maplestar. "Would it be alright if I mentor Lilacpaw?" he asked. Maplestar eyed his old apprentice. "Don't bother with the niceties," the tabby meowed sarcastically. He thought for a second. "I think that will be alright," he meowed. "I will hold the ceremony now. Twistedpaw needs to officially become my apprentice as well. But Lilacpaw will have to agree."
Battooth's fur prickled with excitement. "Thank you!" he meowed. In a second, he dashed back to the apprentice. "Maplestar says it's fine by him, but you have to agree to me being your mentor. I think he wants you to tell him so."
Battooth nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard Maplestar right behind him. "I just want to make sure you think you'd be able to survive with an insane cat as a mentor," the leader explained to the young she-cat.

"Insane?" Lilacpaw asked with mock anger, "Battooth is anything /but/ insane! Of course I'll take him on as my mentor!" She nearly bounecd up and down with excitement, her tail twitching back and forth eagerly at finally having a mentor.
"I'm going to have a men-tor, I'm going to have a men-tor, I'm going to have a men-tor!" Lilacpaw chanted, sounding out the two syllables in "mentor" quite loudly as she sported a few jabs at the air with her paws to get her ready for her apprenticeship.
Songbreeze watched the energetic she-cat apprentice with interest in her eyes. Thinking over the personality of Battooth and the personality of Lilacpaw, she instantly made the many connections that the two cats had. It seemed perfect that the ideal choice for Lilacpaw's mentor was Battooth.

Battooth leaped around Lilacpaw excitedly, chanting along with her. "I'm going to have a men-tor! I'm going to have a men- apprentice! I'm going to have an apprentice!" Maplestar watched the two cats celebrate, rolling his eyes as Battooth chanted the wrong chant, then caught himself halfway through. "Groom yourself quickly if you'd like, then come to the High rock." He bounded across the clearing, leaping up to the top of the High rock in one easy jump and settled on top, watching as Battooth frantically began to grooming his obsidian coat. Letting the tom groom for a moment, Maplestar waited, thinking about Battooth's own apprentice ceremony, and how eager and afraid both the warrior and apprentice had been. When Battooth looked up, Maplestar stood and yowled, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!" Battooth was there in a second, beaming proudly at the other cats and settling his gaze on Lilacpaw, his eyes burning with excitement.

Lilacpaw ran her tongue over her blue-gray pelt in a few, frantic licks. Finally, she determined with the help of Songbreeze that she looked at least a bit presentable. "I'm so excited!" she chirruped, then proceeded to babble a string of words that was said so quickly that hardly anyone understood what she was trying to say.
Songbreeze flicked the excited apprentice on the ears. "Remember, becoming an apprentice to a mentor is no easy task," she forewarned the apprentice, remembering her own mentor who had long gone joined the ranks of StarClan. She watched with amusement as Lilacpaw bounced off to sit the closest to the Highrock. Songbreeze herself padded a few steps towards the Highrock then sat down, content with where she was currently.

Crystalrose and Hailwind had been deeply absorbed in conversation when they heard Maplestar's call for the Clan cats to gather around the Highrock. "We should go," Hailwind meowed, jerking his head in the direction of the Highrock. Crystalrose nodded and followed the larger tomcat, ears pricked forward and eager to hear the news. Perhaps Maplestar would announce Twistedpaw as his apprentice.

Maplestar watched as the Clan gathered. "We have two apprentices who will now have mentors," he meowed authoritively. "First, Lilacpaw. Her mentor will be Battooth. Battooth, you are an... energetic and loyal cat. I trust that you will pass on these qualities to Lilacpaw. Although you might want to calm down, unless you want to scare her away." He beamed down at his former apprentice, amusement sparkling in his eyes as Battooth nodded and padded to greet Lilacpaw by running his tongue gently over the top of her head. He felt like an apprentice himself, quivering with excitement.
Maplestar's voice rang out again. "I have also decided to take an apprentice. Twistedpaw will be my apprentice, as I announced at the Gathering." He leaped down from the Highrock and stepped towards Twistedpaw to greet his new apprentice formally. "If any cat would like to step forward and mentor any of our apprentices who do not have mentors, please talk to me immediately." He flicked his tail, signalling the meeting was over, then turned to look at Twistedpaw happily.

Lilacpaw gave a small "oof" of annoyance as Battooth licked her on the top of the head. "What are you, my mother?" she asked with cheek -- the normal way of her personality. She had an attitude of "I don't care who you are and I don't care what you can do to me." You would consider it rather ruthless and reckless, but she saw no harm in it, although other warriors did believe that her attitude could sometimes get a bit annoying and disrespectful.
Songbreeze nodded with satisfaction as Maplestar announced the apprenticing of both Lilacpaw and Twistedpaw. She was rather surprised at the fact that the EarthClan leader had taken Twistedpaw out of all apprentices to mentor, but she knew that Maplestar probably had his reasons. After all, he /always/ had reasons.
Crystalrose watched with delight as Maplestar said the words out loud of him mentoring Twistedpaw. She was surprised at the fact that Battooth was mentoring Lilacpaw, but soon agreed with the decision. If Lilacpaw had been given a normal cat as a mentor or if Battooth had been given a normal apprentice to mentor, either cat would've been extremely bored. It was as if the two were designed for each other -- both hyper, both a bit sassy at times you could say, and both just... they way they were.

Battooth backed up and laughed. "It's tradition," he meowed. "It's what you're supposed to do. You were supposed to lick my shoulder." He crouched and twisted his head sideways. "So, what would you like to learn about first? Hunting, fighting, patrolling, obeying an annoying leader?" He raised his voice towards the end and heard Maplestar yowl, "I heard that!" Battooth grinned at Lilacpaw, satisfaction flicking across his face.

Lilacpaw couldn't help but start purring at Battooth's comment about Maplestar. It seemed as if the two were on good terms. "I don't know," she meowed truthfully, millions of tiny thoughts buzzing around in her head as she thought of all the possibilities she could have now that she was an apprentice with a brilliant mentor.
"Hunting!" Lilacpaw at last decided, leaping up and down. She wasn't quite interested in fighting just yet. "I don't want to fight yet because I don't want to injure my mentor on the first day of training!" she meowed. To her, it wasn't even being conceited, it was just stating a simple fact.

A tortoiseshell she cat tumbled out of the apprentices den, nearly bumping into Battooth. She had heard that he was going to mentor her sister. 'I guess I was too late' She thought to herself, for she wanted Battooth to be /her/ mentor; he was so fun and kind. "Hey Battooth and Lilacpaw!" She chirruped cheerfuly ((no pun)) . So, Battooth, you're going to mentor Lilacpaw?" Her emerald eyes shone with admire for Battooth, and a slight glint of jealosy, but she was still happy for her sister.
