songbreeze; The air was cool as it moved briskly across the still waters, causing faint ripples to create their reverberations within the surface. The lake was painted with dull, gray colors, the same with the scenery surrounding it. The trees were bare, all of their fiery and vibrant leaves already deceased, some still lying inert on the ground as memories of the past leaf-fall. A paw stepped on a moist-cladden leaf, and though normal impulse was to recoil from the cold, soggy touch, paw after paw continued following up, measuring in to a steady gait that was unperturbed by nothing.
The only sound that could be heard when still was the howling and whipping sound of the wind as it snapped and cracked, flinging its arms this way and that. There was no flurry of leaves or petals as there usually was in other seasons, for, of course, this was the barest and coldest of all seasons. Leaf-bare.
Nothing thrived, except for things abiotic and things meant to survive in the touch conditions. Those who still clung on, such as the forest cats, remained, though not in the epic proportions they did when warmer temperatures were present. Issues at hand were not quite going well, for though creatures were not physically stirring in the woods as much as they used to, there was a psych out there that seemed to initiate more emotional issues, issues that not everyone was privy to. Most did not know what was happening right underneath their noses, and though many would have liked to know should they understand that a secret was being kept for them, for some, ignorance certainly was bliss.
The she-cat was one of those not amongst those who knew of the secret. It was a forbidden and untouched thing; a forbidden love. She did not know about it--and it did not bring her any stress, for she did not know that she did not know about it. Carefree, her mind was not clouded with the urgency of keeping things safe and locked in her head--and all the better, for she was a tough one with secrets. Tendencies to spill and confide in someone ran high through her, though if the need were dire enough, she might make an exception. Might.
Colored as a brown tabby with pale green eyes, she strutted and pranced her way through the desolate scenery, sweeping her gaze across as if attempting to transfer the warmth in her eyes to the appearances surrounding her. Just like notes floating down a gentle zephyr, she stayed true to her name--Songbreeze.

Paws fell silently across the snowy ground of the forest floor, following those up ahead it seemed, though not a sound was uttered from the feline doing so. His mind strayed and wandered from thing to thing, mostly taking in the dead scenery and the few scrawny creatures lurking about. Leaf-bare was always so serene, though that left not a thing to enjoy another's company with. It was a shame really. Green-leaf brought playing and rejoicing as this freezing season brought snuggling together and sharing meals to keep two cold cats fed. There was a noticeable difference, one was energetic as the other was warming to the heart. He didn't entirely know which one he enjoyed more of.
The tom's glazed amber eyes flowed to the she-cat up ahead, whom to be in thought too, her body moving swiftly through the few leaves scattered on the ground. As he watched, a sense of warmth spread over his heart and he smiled slightly before blinking and turning to the trees above. Oh Songbreeze. She was so playful and happy, which only made him happy too. They rarely have any troubles, but if jabbing and poking is considered troublesome then they did have troubles-- a lot. The brown tabby warrior held him tongue, laughter dancing in his eyes as he replayed the recent scene with the cave and poking.
He had led her to a secret cave and they spent their time tucked away from the harsh winds, and as they snuggled warm together, he had noticed little dots layering the entrance to their hideout. Snow. Their play began and they chased each other, hopping happily through the snow until Songbreeze tripped and tumbled down a hill into the ivory sea below. The warrior went to check up on her and found her literally rolling with absolute laughter, purring choking her being until he lifted her up. Sadly, a promise to Eagledance brought him away from her with abruptness. Now, his heart was darkened a little with fear for his carnal friend and the swirl of secret-ism clutching at him constantly.
Oakheart -- this cat's name -- knew that all could be won or loss. What would Eagledance and Silverpaw do? How was any of this possible? Two cats from different Clans in a forbidden relationship? It was against the Warrior code at most! Worrisome thoughts began to overwhelm him and white paws stumbled to a sudden cease, his brows furrowed and a puff of warm air escaped his lungs. He wished desperately that he could confined in Songbreeze but he would ruin everything then. Eagledance's friendship and faith in him... and perhaps his and Silverpaw's delicate lives. Silverpaw rested on one shoulder as Eagledance another, betraying them wasn't what he was about to do!
Shaking his head, he managed to dislodge the blackness and hurriedly caught up to the she-cat ahead. His discomfort vanished when he gazed at her face, her two green eyes glimmering in the pale sunlight, his expression melted into affection. "Songbreeze, what do yah want to do?" He murmured, brushing his chin against her left ear. He decided not to lick her because if he did, well, that side of her face would be chilly. Flicking his tail, he pressed gently against her, as to share the warmth.

songbreeze; She sensed his warmth first before anything else. This was a common reaction, especially during the chilled months inhabiting leaf-bare. Warmth was always the top prority for most bodies--hers, at least. A purr rumbled delicately in her throat in appreciation for Oakheart's actions. Her left ear twitched slightly when he brushed against it, and she allowed another purr to escape through her vocal chords.
She was content to letting the silence fill the gap in between them, though when she heard Oakheart speak, she listened attentively in order to give a carefully thought out response. His question, however, was not a serious one that involved a lot of thought; to her, it just somehow involved a lot of imagination. Imagination was a good thing to have at times--even if you were an adult she-cat, as she was. Being too serious wasn't particularly the best personality trait; one had to excersise understanding exactly when to be serious and exactly when to lighten up and enjoy the mood and the world.
Right now, it was an understatement to say that she was content. She was beyond that--almost to the point where she could almost say that she didn't need anything else in the world. Still, that would prove to be somewhat of a mundane and untrue fact, as it was ordinary nature to always want something more, no matter how happy you are with everything surrounding her. Still, Songbreeze found herself at peace with most things within her, as she had learned to accept everything around her, from the most annoying kit in EarthClan to sharp words spoken between fellow Clan mates. It was this patience that helped her at times to get through drama unscathed and without accident deepening any physical or mental wounds inflicted.
Her biggest complaint at the moment was the cold weather, though she couldn't quite whine about that too much, as she had Oakheart, big bundle of fur that he was. "Don't know," she told the tomcat in answer to his inquiry, her voice placid, matching the rest of her casual demeanor. "What do you wanna do?" she asked, countering having to answer the question. The words she returned to the tomcat were words that would either come to a conclusion or simply cause a full circle of 'what do you want to do's. Either way, Songbreeze was perfectly comfortable. And as we lie beneath the stars We realize how small we are If they could love like you and me Imagine what the world could be
"Don't know. What do you wanna do?"
The tabby tom resisted the urge to roll his eyes at her reply. Who knows how long the 'wanna dos' can go? From sunrise to sunset, but not wanting to waste away the little last bit of the day, Oakheart rumbled, "Well, miss what do yeh wanna do, I'd like to visit the lakeside. Does that sound good?" As he thought about the wide expanse of water, the tom glanced up at the sun, which was nearly obscured by rusty clouds. Obviously, it was around sunset so everything was a warm orange color-- the lake reflected the fiery light and shown beautifully. Night was almost among them, and a few tiny stars began to shine in the afternoon glow, giving the scene a loving calming look. Perfect for them.
He nudged the she-cat toward the direction of the lake, and began to trot forward, his paw steps light and his head full of stars. The silence began to make him think and to his surprise, he realized he never told Songbreeze the most important meow a tom could say to a she-cat. He ignored the churn of guilt in his stomach and lifted his head a bit more.
"Songbreeze...?" He murmured, glancing at her, "I've never told yeh this straight out, but yeh know already..." He stopped walking and turned to face her with a serious expression, his amber eyes searching her green ones, the tabby knew that what he was about to say was very true. "Songbreeze," Oakheart addressed her, "I love yeh."
The sentence sent a thrill through him and he smiled happily.
"I want yeh to be mine and no one else's. I will care for yeh and think about you all the time. No cat in the world will be any more important to me than yeh... except..." He looked down sheepishly before gazing back into her eyes again. "Except if perhaps we have kits in the future. They would mean as much to me as yeh do." The tomcat took in a deep breath before adding, "I just need to hear if yeh feel the same."
If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died When nobody died...

songbreeze; The she-cat had been about to poke and prod some more in a teasing way toward the burly tomcat currently in her company, but just as she opened her mouth, he spoke, catching her quite off guard when he did not say something in a teasing tone back. Still, his suggestion of visiting the lakeside was nothing very surprising; it was still well within the boundaries of their normal jovial demeanor. As their little excursion continued on, however, the she-cat thought she could sense somewhat of a mood change within Oakheart.
Everything at that moment had been nearly perfect and picturesque, the scenery painted as a canvas fit for royalty. Sunset had fallen upon the land at the particular moment, and she had found herself bathed in its beauty for a few moments, rather awestruck. Still, she snapped out of it and continued on, ambling alongside Oakheart.
The tom's beginning words had been innocent enough, simply addressing her. They had progressed in to something else, however, and Songbreeze found herself waiting for what he had to say, impatient.
"I've never told yeh this straight out, but yeh know already..."
As he trailed off at this particular moment, she found herself holding her breath, anticipating what was to come.
"Songbreeze, I love yeh."
The reacction in Songbreeze was immediate at these words. The whistling sound of the wind died away, and she was aware of a warmth filling her, vanquishing the outside chill. Meeting the tom's amber gaze full straight on, she found that she could not look away--nor did she even think to. She knew that his words were genuine, and that no other tom could tell her this as truthfully and earnestly. Though she had not voiced a response, she felt within her that she loved the tomcat, and could already tell so. If it had not been obvious enough to her before, here was now her answer--everything was clear.
At the mention of kits, Songbreeze felt a slight flicker of apprehension disrupting her adoration and infatuation with the tomcat. It was a cold realization to know that she had doubt within her, and she studied Oakheart carefully again. It took a while, but she eventually finally realized that it was normal for her to feel fear--if she didn't, she would most obviously not be normal. Still, it was impossible not to succumb to the giddy feeling of happiness the felt at that precise moment, and she allowed it to sweep away any doubt that thrived in her mind at the moment.
"You silly tom," she began, her words bearing her affection. Her voice started out as humorous, but then toned down in to a level of seriousness. "I love you too," she murmured softly, the words flowing out with ease. &fin

The muscular tomcat waited for her to speak, the flickers of emotions shown on her face until she finally replied. Songbreeze started out humorous then her voice drifted to serious, the thrill of happiness glowing from in and around her. She loved him. Warmth blossomed in Oakheart's chest and he purred, the cold air barely made a difference now, as he bent down to nuzzle her furry cheek. "Well, I was hopin' yeh were goin' to say that," He murmured lovingly before twining their tails together and starting to walk forward again.
As they trotted onward to the lakeside, the tabby couldn't help but think about how out of character he had just sounded. That really couldn't be helped though, he had to be like that when telling Songbreeze the truth. If he would have laughed when announcing it, it would have sounded like a joke. His thoughts strayed to how she would have replied to that before letting go of the situation in his mind. Raising a brow, Oakheart meowed, "I ain't usually the one to be serious an' all. I probably caught yeh off guard." His shoulders shook slightly as he purred a laugh. "Hey, we're almost there!"

songbreeze; "You did catch me off guard, you big brute," was her response as she batted at him playfully. She nearly lost her balance as she did this, and she wavered to the side for a few moments before regaining her direction. "Note to self: try to always stay on four paws or end up sprawled out on the ground," she muttered to herself, mirth flickering in the depths of her pale emerald eyes. With confessions of love over, she felt even more carefree, and her face was pulled back in to a cat's earnest smile. Though her demeanor was now bubbly and happy, the reverberations of the previous words exchanged with Oakheart still remained within her, and she knew that she would never forget them.
In response to his statement of how they were almost nearly upon the border of the lake, the she-cat looked on, her eyes sharpening against the quickly arriving twilight skyline. "And so we are," she murmured faintly, lengthening her strides until she was at the edge of the lake. The water was frigid, and she found this out when it washed over her paws. The she-cat yelped and stumbled backward, surprise coursing its way through her body and causing her fur to rise on end. It was a very in depth reacction, for Songbreeze certainly did not take well to the cold.
Scrambling back toward Oakheart, she proceeded to press a paw in to the tomcat's fur. "Cold, isn't it?" she meowed, purrs of laughter drifting through her.

Oakheart, though clouded with the many layers of bliss in his conscience, smirked at the she-cat. "Ah well, ya know wha' ya can do to me," He replied, grinning like a star-struck fool. His laughter stopped abruptly as he saw Songbreeze began to sway dangerously, her paws flopping somewhat. Cocking his head in a curious manner, he watched as she regained her balance and muttered something nearly inaudible. Oakheart did so happen to hear the part about 'sprawling on the ground.' "Now missy, ya don't need to be so careful. Ya do that anyyyyway," He reminded her in a mock superior tone, shaking his head.
Soon enough Songbreeze picked up a brisk pace and she swiftly made her way to the lake's surface. Oakhearet silently admired the way she moved, his heart picking up a notch. I really am star-struck, He thought, pursing his lips thoughtfully. Songbreeze doesn't seem to mind. More like enjoys it, He blinked, amused. Suddenly, there was a cry and Oakheart was awaken up from his reverie. "Wha'?" He blurted out.
He snickered. Songbreeze's paw was dripping with water- probably cold too. Looking at her shocked expression, he bit his tongue to stop from making even louder noise. "Great StarClan, Songbreeze! Ya probably scared all the prey from 'ere to end of SkyClan!" He snorted, falling back on his haunches. "Ya sure are clumsy, missy. Can't keep yar balance, fallin' down hills, and can't even tell when the lake'sa chilly," Oakheart added in a mockingly friendly way.
He was so absorbed in this funny situation, he was unaware of Songbreeze approaching him. He felt her paw roughly press into his fur, his eyes widened and he gently knocked her away with his head. "Aha, though I hate to admit it, that was a good'un." Narrowing his eyes, he darted to the lake and dipped his paw in, his fur standing on in. "Yikes," He muttered to himself, swinging away to stare Songbreeze down. The wind made his paw feel chilled to the bone and so he had to stop himself from giving it a few brisk licks.
Oakheart smirked at the she-cat, his tail lashing and his body rocking from side to side like a cobra. "If ya wanna play dirty, let's play dirty," He growled, his lips pulling into a grin.

songbreeze; The she-cat's complete demeanor released signs of mirth at Oakheart's many reacctions to the course of her multiple actions. She blinked serenely, a sudden halt in her flurry of movements, like the eye of a hurricane. She appeared lost in thought for a matter of seconds, but this lasted only for a few moments. Brought back to her normal state of mind by Oakheart's words, a smile creased her maw.
"My paws are still cold," she remarked playfully to his body's light suggestion at an attack. "And everyone knows that cold paws are the leading cause of death," she added, winking. "Good luck surviving, my brave tomcat!" With that, she lunged forward as if to clutch at his neck, but stopped short, her paws landing in the heart of a pile of snow. She stood in front of Oakheart, tilted her head, and quickly poked him in the flank with her paw.
Bringing her paw back to its rightful place in the snow, her eyes followed the arc of Oakheart's tail as it moved back and forth. Her eyes lit up like a kitten's, and she immediately went after the tail, swatting at it. She paused for a moment, and regarded her childish behavior. Songbreeze then resumed her activity, saying aloud, "Oh well. You're only young and foolish and easily distracted once."
While still batting at Oakheart's tail, she added with a slight snort of laughter, "And I guess my whole life is just this once." &fin

Oakheart smiled to himself when listening to Songbreeze's many remarks about cold paws being dangerous. She had such an imagination. The warrior lashed his tail again and prepared for her arrival once she leaned back. He'd just roll out from under her paws and pop out at her flank. Instead, to his utmost surprise, she stopped short and jabbed him. He stayed still, to utterly shocked, as she bounced back and suddenly attacked his tail. What was she doing? Was he a play toy? Oakheart's glazed amber eyes blinked and became bright again as his mate began to speak after drawing back just a little bit.
"Oh well. You're only young and foolish and easily distracted once."
The tomcat finally unlocked his muscles and leaped away from her batting paws, grinning as he did so. Before he could reply, Songbreeze answered herself. "And I guess my whole life is just this once." In his mind, he recounted all the kitten-like moments she had had before.
"I just 'ave to agree to that," Oakheart mewed in a friendly way, before twirling away from her paws once more. "We all knew there was a kitten lurkin' in there," He joked.

songbreeze;Songbreeze purred, flicking her tail lightly across the tomcat's nose. It was nice to be here, and every part of her wallowed in the moment gently. She pawed at the snow once more, then spun a couple of rotations around as artfully as she could.
Her eyes danced back to Oakheart. "Oakheart," she began, pushing her head against his shoulder. "Do you think I'm too... childish sometimes?" Her voice flitted across the boundary line of playfulness and seriousness, though she wasn't exactly quite sure what tone of voice she wanted the answer to be.
She burrowed her head even deeper against his shoulder, then opened her mouth to speak again. "I'm hungry," she remarked faintly, and all of a sudden with those two words, the coldness and harshness of leaf-bare sprang through, and she shivered lightly as yet another gale of wind tunneled through the land. Kit-ish? Oakheart glanced down at Songbreeze as she nestled into his fur. "Sometimes, Songbreeze. Other times you're as wise as StarClan itself," he answered earnestly, nuzzling the top part of her head.
After a few moments, the wind picked up twice as much and rushed against them like 'twas no tomorrow. The lake shuddered and began to wash upon the shore even more heavily. Was it to rain? He glanced up at the rusty sky and saw bruised purple clouds rolling in from the west. Oakheart's lids half closed and he sighed softly as the she-cat snuggled even closer. Songbreeze whispered something quietly. She was hungry. Oakheart dipped his head, brushing against her fur and breathing in her floral scent.
Was this an omen?
Roughly pushing away the thought, he curled his tail lovingly around Songbreeze, for he knew nothing he said would make her belly full. Suddenly, he felt very small in the world. Leaf-bare seemed so huge in comparison. Closing his eyes, the tomcat pressed himself firmly against his mate as the wind rushed into the snow and swiveled it into the atmosphere. Dots layered the sky and the trees as the world slowly dissolved into darkness.
"Come on, Songbreeze," he whispered gently, standing up.

songbreeze; The mood that was seconds ago filled with mirth and delight and wonder sobered, transforming itself in to a bleak, dark acceptance of the world around them. It was cold, there was no escaping it. It was dark, there was no escaping it. All they could do was accept it and trudge through their lives, trying to live through it day by day, no matter how long it seemed. The she-cat cast her eyes upward, and saw that there was no relief for the leaf-bare anytime soon. A sigh shuddered through her body as she stood up and followed Oakheart.
Their minute actions were ones of resignation; ones of saying that yes, leaf-bare was there. No matter, however, for the seasons would eventually change. Still, at this moment, it felt as if everything was to be the same, no matter what. Time droned on at an unbearable rate, it seemed, and this fact was washed away by optimism, on Songbreeze's part.
She tried to be happy, she tried to curve her maw in to a smile, and to have her eyes dance with light. It was hard, though, sometimes, especially with the realization that she was hungry, or that she was freezing. The she-cat's ears twitched and drooped slightly as she proceeded after the tomcat. "Back to camp?" she murmured softly. &fin

A heavy sense of loss very nearly overwhelmed Oakheart as he began to lead Songbreeze through the thrashing forest. "Yes'm," He meowed softly, "The camp is safer then this." Blinking slowly, the tomcat tilted his head back and stared up at the blackening sky, his claws digging into the roots below. The little twinkles barely made out amongst the purple clouds. Again, very suddenly, the wind rushed in and spiraled mercilessly onto their set path.
"Songbreeze, hurry, the storm is about to hit," Oakheart mewed urgently, his ears pricking forward as a few tiny raindrops fell from the sky. The warrior turned his head back to look at his mate, his amber eyes glowing somewhat in the night.
Dreams of the warm, safe warriors' den flooded his conscience as Oakheart padded through the snow on the ground. It was melting quickly under the drops from the sky above, soon to leave only mud and such...

songbreeze; The wind whistled its melancholy tune, and the sky began to scatter its light yet cold bearings. Eyes narrowed against the cold, Songbreeze padded after Oakheart, trying to ignore the increasing fierceness of the clawing cold. Her paws whispered upon the ground, dull colored leaves and dirt brushing against her pads and sticking to them. She resisted the urge to complain once again, and instead moved forward in an unbroken silence.
It was cold. Cold. Cold.
It seemed as if the cold could take over her mind and her soul; her body and her will. Still, she gritted her teeth, and though she hated it all, she kept her faith strong in StarClan. She would make it through this leaf-bare, and so would everyone else. She would, and they would.
Still, despite this glimmer of hope and faith she felt she would never relinquish to any type of weather, she had to admit that she did not like trekking home with a storm at her tail. Songbreeze continued to focus on the monotonous movement of putting paw in front of paw, over and over again.
