Heaving himself easily onto shore, the relatively plump figure of a cat settled down on the moist land, letting the water wash gently over his paws as it came in and out. Hazelnut colored eyes gazed over the halcyon waters, hoping that he could finally be left alone, having the choice of just sitting and letting his emotions and thoughts run through briefly.
The moon still shone brightly overhead, casting its shimmering glow onto the land surrounding him. All the sparse clumps of heather and mountainside were bathed in the moonlight as well. With his head resting on his paws, Inkpaw thought of his one favorite thought - Dreampaw.
He thought of her svelte figure and her suave silver tabby coat. He thought of her nonchalant and shy attitude. Although the night was chilly, his black pelt was enough to keep him at least adequately warm, despite the water that rushed up onto the shore and gently spraying him lightly with the moisture.

Silverpaw padded along the forest floor. She had just left camp and was wanting to see the stream she loved to visit. It has always been her most loved place for she was born there and that it touched the lake.
Her eyes shone as she found its place and for a moment she was hesitate to touch its surface. Finally after a long moment she lept into its depths. She usually found that it was small and was easy to stand back up but it wasn't!
Silverpaw's eyes stretched wide as she fought control to stay above the water. It rushed against her making her cold, then her head submerged. She tried to figure out which way was up for all she saw was water. Heartbeats later she found air and tried to take in as much as she could but only coughed wretchingly. "Help me!" she cried as she was carried swiftly down the stream. "He-" she started to yowl when she hit a low hanging branch. She didn't get it hard but it still hurt. Her claws raked the branch in luck of getting herself out but only caught it by one paw.
She was to die and no one was going to see her again.
Her front claws slipped slightly and she cried out again "Help!"
StarClan no!

Inkpaw looked up from his daydream - or nightdream, whatever you prefer - as he heard the sounds of Silverpaw's cries coming from only a few tail-lengths away. Instantly, he stood up, alerted at the sound of her voice so close to where he was. Bounding in the direction of the voice, it was only a matter of seconds before he raced across the shore, keeping parallel with Silverpaw who was being hurtled down the stream that ran into the lake.
Without thinking, he leaped into the water, his mind set and determined to save Silverpaw, his fellow Clanmate, no matter what. Swimming towards her with powerful strokes despite his exhaustion at already swimming many lengths, he gradually made his way to her. Finally, he managed to sink his teeth into her scruff.
It was an undignified way to play hero, but as long as she was safe, that was all that mattered in his rescue. Pulling her onto the shore he had been on only a few minutes ago, he let go of her pelt, breathing hard. Gazing up at the moon, he sent a quick prayer up to StarClan thanking them that they hadn't called him to their ranks just yet.
"You okay?" he asked the she-cat, concern glinting slightly in his hazelnut eyes although his mind was working on other situations - like how he could tell Dreampaw about his saving Silverpaw without seeming as if he were boasting. He was sure that Dreampaw would be absolutely impressed at his skills at swimming and being able to save Silverpaw from the current that would've swept her away forever.

Silverpaw's eyes were closed but somewhere in the back of her mind a familair voice echoed. The silver she-cat opened them to see Inkpaw looking down at her. Her eyes swept over the features of his face. "Inkpaw...? W-" she coughed a few times "what happened?" Her voice was soft.
Everything was blurry, the only thing she saw was caring hazelnut eyes and a slim black figure. Perhaps it was all a dream? A crazy, crazy dream? What was she thinking? Though for some reason, she had never seen Inkpaw look so gentle. Never to her only to Dreampaw "the perfect she-cat." Yet she felt her body grow hot and fuzzy as she gazed into his eyes.

"You fell into the stream and got swept away by its current," Inkpaw explained to the she-cat. If he had been speaking to Dreampaw, he would've been more conerned and his voice would've held more worry in it then it did now, but he had yet to save Dreampaw. It would happen one day, though, he swore on it.
"You're not going to join StarClan just yet," he chirruped cheerfully at her, leaping back with his pelt dripping heavily from the many descents he had made into the water after just a few hours at night. He knew that he should truly be at the Gathering, but something inside of him just made him want to go back to Camp... and Dreampaw.

Lilypaw waded into the water, wanting to just get back to camp, longing to curl up beside Inkpaw; but that would never happen, because he was angry with her and would probably never want to be near her anytime soon. Lilypaw thought about what Dreampaw would say about thier fight as she neared the shore of the lakeside. She would probably yell at Inkpaw, and he would be even more angry at Lilypaw.
As she came to the shore, she saw--to her suprise, Inkpaw saving Silverpaw. 'Oh no', She thought. 'If Inkpaw sees me, he'll think I'm following him again' Lilypaw watched fron a little way away, hoping Inkpaw or Silverpaw wouldn't notice her.

Silverpaw blinked her icy-blue eyes a few times then murmured "can you help me get up, Inkpaw?" Her body felt weak from the thrashing and kicking she had did within the stream's water.
What was this feeling? Her thoughts focused on it warily, afriad to what she might find. With a soft sigh she closed her eyes, hoping to try to regain some strength.

((Shoo Lilypaw! BEGONE! x3 Naw, just kiddin'. But m'kay. :3))
Inkpaw nodded towards Silverpaw, clamping his jaws gently around her metallic colored scruff yet again. Pulling her up, he helped her settle onto her paws. He glanced at her, worried that she would loose her footing and yet again slip into the icy depths of the stream that flew in a torrent down into the lake.
"That was quite a fall you had there," he told her, settling down and running his rough pink tongue over his black pelt a few times in attempt to add a little warmth to his soaking pelt. "I've been in and out of the water many times." he meowed, more to himself than to Silverpaw.

Silverpaw dug her claws into the ground to keep herself level as she glanced at the fast current. Then the she-cat smiled, "thank for saving me Inkpaw. If it wasn't for you I don't think..." she trailed off unsure what to say. Silverpaw, after a moment, gave his ear a few gentle licks in her kind affection and drew away.
Her thoughts were still rather numb but she'd probably manage with some support on her way back to SkyClan camp. Silverpaw licked her pelt, trying hard to get all the water out. She only wished that she had the coat of the ancient cats of RiverClan. With a sigh she began to lick her paw then drew it delicately over her ear.
The Gathering must have just started but that was when a certain wild thought struck her. What was Inkpaw doing here? Wasn't he chosen for the Gathering? She hesitated, should she ask? No, no, it wouldn't be the plolite thing to do.

Inkpaw gave a nod in acknowledgement of her thanks. He began padding away quickly, trying to warm himself up and getting his blood to circulate. Goodness knows what would happen if he didn't return to the Camp quickly and get himself warmed up. All feeling had almost gone numb in him from the chilly night and the many descents he had made into the water.
He shook himself a few times, splattering water droplets all over his surroundings. He was slightly warmer, but that instantly turned to being cold again. He wanted to stop and give his pelt a few licks for at least that would provide him temporary relief from the cold, but he knew that after he did, the chilly night air would immediately make it even colder until there were ice droplets clinging onto his black pelt.
He made his way across the land, groping with his paws for the slope that ran gently upward, wnting to get to Camp and to tell Dreampaw of his saving of Silverpaw. She would surely be impressed. That was the only thing that kept him from stopping and letting himself tremble to death. With a mental sigh, he continued trudging on, determination gleaming in his hazelnut colored eyes.
