A she-cat padded along the forest floor, the undergrowth brushing against her bright white fur, she was smiling cheerfully as she stopped beside a large graying tree. The warrior tilted her head upward and saw the widest trunk in EarthClan territory, the sky was barely visible through the trees' branches. Although the trunk was a fading brown-ash color, the leaves were still a vivid green and glowed from the sunshine.
It was beautiful...
Dovefeather turned her head and gazed expectantly at the bushes and tall grasses, her ears pricked forward. She smiled when a familiar scent tickled her rosy pink nose, and then glanced at the tree once more, then past it and toward the sunny blue sky. Rays of golden sunshine trickled through and warmed her ivory fur; the she-cat closed her eyes and let out a light, airy sigh. "Voleheart?" She mewed after a moment, her tail flicking with excitement.
Although she was a warrior, she still had a bit of kit-ish charm to her-- something that her dearest companion lacked. Dovefeather knew that Voleheart spoke only when spoken to, so she always tried to talk to him and get him to lighten up. The she-cat's claws unsheathed and dug into the grass below, her green eyes narrowing to small slits; in her mind's eye, she was dreaming of climbing this tree.
How long she had waited to!
Dovefeather blinked and released a soft purr, her mind coming back to reality. She had a habit of drifting away...
"Come on, Voleheart, I can't wait anymore," She mrrowed playfully.

Voleheart walked slowly after his companion and clanmate, Dovefeather. He could hear the undergrowth giving little crackles as their branches brushed against the she-cat's soft white fur. Yet, unlike his cheerfully smiling friend, Voleheart's expression was blank as he followed after her. It felt rather chilly out, even though the weak sun was glaring down at them through the branches of the many trees.
Voleheart? he heard Dovefeather's soft call not far away, drawing his attention from the ground, up to the tall grass and other foliage in front of him-- guessing that Dovefeather was somewhere on the other side. He wrinkled his nose a bit, hesitating for a couple heartbeats. He truely wasn't all that informed of what they were doing out here in the first place, but, it made no difference. Dovefeather probably would have dragged him along anyways.
With a low sigh, Voleheart slipped through the grass just as he heard Dovefeather call for him again. "You don't have to wait but a couple heartbeats," the tom forced a chuckle as he poked his head from the dark grass and slipped out, his tail waving as he came to stand in front of his white clanmate. "Remind me why we're here again?" Voleheart grunted, the end of his tail tip flicking back and forth in a constant motion.
His gaze drifted to the tree behind her, and he slowly lifted his head to look up towards the top, his amber eyes narrowing at the branches that spread out. It was a pretty sight, no doubt. Voleheart's whiskers twitched before he lowered his head and sat himself back on his haunches, turning his attention expectantly back to Dovefeather as he awaited her response.

She heard the very low crunch of paws from the other side of the grasses, and after a hesitated moment, he slipped through with a low chuckle. She pirked up and cocked her head, purring again but not making a verbal reply. As sweet and polite as Dovefeather may be, she had a sense of being a little impatient sometimes. The white she-cat watched silently as he gazed around and then slowly looked up at the huge tree. "Remind me of why we're here again?" He asked finally.
The white feline arched her back in a delicious stretch, before lightly flicking his eartip with her tail, "We're going to climb it, remember?" She replied, "I still can't believe you haven't done this yet! I haven't either... but it looks so fun!" Her fur bristled with anticipation and unsheathed her claws, the sharp tips shredding the grass below them.
Dovefeather turned around and raked the trunk, scoring it all the way to the bottom. The little marks were pure white with flecks of grey. "To remember this day!" She explained to Voleheart, and then she dug both of her claws in and leapt upward, her back paws scratched aimlessly until getting their hold. Inhaling, she furrowed her brows and scrambled up the tree, snaking along until she got to the first branch. She curled herself with her green eyes round in excitement.
"Let's see how far you can go," She challenged.

"Climb it...Right..." Voleheart's dull amber eyes flashed with something unknown. Fear, perhaps? After all, the tom had always had his paws planted on the earth. He WAS an Earthclan cat, after all. He wasn't a Skyclan warrior!
Voleheart felt his teeth grit down together nervously, his tail's twitching picking up its speed. "Well," he mused, "I'm not one to climb...Or leave the ground for long, in that matter." he answered bluntly, watching as the she-cat tore up the grass between her ebony claws.
The tom watched as she dug her claws into the bark and scrabbled there for a moment, trying to get a grip, before climbing her way up to the first branch. "Let's see how far you can go," he listened to the she-cat's challenge, his ears slicking back to his skull.
"We'll see," he meowed, slipping carefully over to the broad trunk, he bunched the weight in his haunches and launched himself at the tree, digging his claws firmly into the bark and scrabbling with his hind to get a hold on the rough treebark. Once he'd found a grip, he carefully began to scale his way up the tree, his ears pressed firmly to the sides of his head as he reached a branch on the opposite side of Dovefeather, just a little lower than the branch she was sitting upon. Almost clumsily, he inched over to it and slipped onto the branch, claws still unsheathed as he balanced himself, staring longingly down at the ground.
He had to shake it away though. He didn't want to appear frightened in front of Dovefeather.

Dovefeather watched with amusement as the tom struggled onto to branch, then finally getting onto it and gazing down at the ground. The white warrior, from where she sat, couldn't see his expression and miscalculated it for excitement or amazement. She smirked, her green eyes flickering up to see the next branch, it was sort of far... The branch, unlike the others, looked a little weak. Voleheart and herself would have to share it, too, seeing as there wasn't a branch close to it. She felt a flicker of fear light up inside her belly and trembled internally.
You can't give up yet! Her competitive part mewled.
I don't know; it looks dangerous.
Do you want Voleheart to see how scared you are?
There was only one answer to that. Dovefeather's blinked and bunched her hind muscles, springing forward and hooking onto the bark. Narrowing her eyes, the she-cat began to make her way upward, her tail waving behind her. If she lost her balance... Dovefeather shook the horrible thought away and scrambled onto the branch, hearing it crunch in reply. Don't break! She plead, her fur bristling with fear.
It shuddered then swayed still. Sighing in relief, she peered down at Voleheart, her hear lurching once realizing he looked rather... tiny from here. "Uh. Your turn," She called, her eyes wide, although her emotions were too bunched to decipher.

Voleheart couldn't help but quiver a bit, biting at his rough tongue and twitching the end of his tail repeatedly. This she-cat's going to kill me! he groaned inwardly when he watched Dovefeather leap and hook her claws into the bark. I don't want to go any higher. I'm just fine where I am. his mind continued to scream, the fur on his spine bristling a little and a frown on his maw as he watched her climb higher, and higher, and higher.
He could've sworn his heart had dropped into the pit of his stomach by the time he saw Dovefeather reach the branch. His throat dry, Voleheart quivered involuntarily before bunching the energy in his hind legs and leaping. He sank his claws into the bark, his ears pressed tightly back to his skull as he slowly climbed upwards towards her. He could feel a soft breeze and felt his heartbeat quicken. He did NOT want to fall off this tree.
But...What if he did?
Don't look down, don't look down... he told himself, swallowing hard as he watched Dovefeather's figure slowly grow larger and larger as he climbed up towards her. It felt like ages before he finally reached her height, and, heart thumping loudly in his chest, Voleheart slowly inched his way towards the branch, carefully, he climbed onto it, cringing when it began to sway a little.
The tom waited until the swaying stopped before lifting himself out of a crouch and taking a step towards Dovefeather-- a step too many.
His hind paw slipped off the branch, bringing the rest of him down too. Voleheart gave a yowl of surprise, reflexes the only thing that probably saved him from plunging to his death right than and there. His claws scraped furiously at the bark, hooking unsteadily into the swaying branch. His fur had fluffed up, and his amber eyes stretched wide in obvious fear.
(( I'm guessing you were hinting it was time for him to fall with the whole 'share the branch' thing. xP If not, than...Woops. ))

Dovefeather crouched down on the tree, her claws buried deeply into the bark, as she watched the tom slowly begin to climb higher. Abruptly, a breeze came by and the white warrior cringed, her heart felt like it had lodged itself into her throat. Finally, he edged onto the little branch with her, her fur bristling at the motion it caused. Both of them were completely still until it came to a halt. The she-cat let out an exhausted sigh and decided they should head down now, just as she opened her maw, Voleheart took a step toward her.
Then it was a whirl of fur and an ear-splitting yowl.
"Voleheart!" Dovefeather screeched, watching as his hind paws fell away to nothing. She launched herself forward and bit onto his scruff with her teeth, the she-cat's claws scoring away the aged branch's texture. Dovefeather knew it was sure to cause pain to the tom, but she gripped his scruff with all her might, and began to help him regain bark underpaw. This is all my fault! She wailed into her mind.
Dovefeather's jaw ached with the weight and she felt herself immediately fling forward after relaxing the muscles slightly. She clenched with fear as she was dragged nearly off of the branch; but before they could both tumble to their death, she lurched backward and stayed that way, giving Voleheart access to the bark once again.
"Hurry!" She growled through his fur, her ears pinned against her head.
ooc;; No, no, you're a smartical! You got the hint! xDD

His hind legs flailed in empty air and his eyes, wild with fear, flared as he saw Dovefeather launch herself at him, grabbing at his scruff and trying to pull him back. Voleheart would have begun to wail like a kit if it weren't for Dovefeather's presence. His claws still scrabbling at the bark, trying furiously and desperately to regain his grip. I'm going to die! his mind wailed.
That was when he felt Dovefeather suddenly fling forwards, dragging him back down too with a surprised yip. His claws scored in the bark, and, he felt himself lift up a little as Dovefeather lurched back.
Hooking his claws into the bark of the aged branch, he scrabbled up, finally slipping the rest of his body onto the branch.
Every nerve in his body screamed at him to get the Starclan down from that tree, but, he was too petrified to move, and could only cling fearfully to the branch, claws digging hard into the wood. His breathing was heavy, and the fur along his spine was pricked up, ears pinned back to his skull and amber eyes stretched wide. Eventually, he turned his attention to Dovefeather; quivering with shock.
(( Really? :'D Huzzah! ))

Dovefeather let go once he was securely clinging to the branch, and she let out a low mew, ever so slightly tinged with amusement, "Who said I can't be the heroin?" She asked breathlessly. The white warrior, who's eyes were also stretched wide in shock, watched as Voleheart slowly turned his head to look at her. She blinked in encouragement, although she herself was trembling. Dovefeather let out a breath and daintily padded over Voleheart and to the bark, and still shivering, she unsheathed her claws as far as they would go and hooked herself.
"Let's get the heck off this tree," She mumbled, probably more to herself than Voleheart.
She thought going down was going to be a lot harder than going up, but it was much easier than she had thought-- it just occupied more time and more precautions. At last she reached Voleheart's old branch and stared up at him, her expression a mixture of concern and pity, even if she knew he wouldn't like that. "Be careful!" Dovefeather called, her ears pressing against her skull in worry.

Voleheart squinted his amber eyes shut, breathing still quick. "Thank you," he breathed in a hoarse voice, opening his amber eyes into slits as he watched Dovefeather carefully slip past him and to the trunk of the tree, and watched her, reluctance in his amber eyes.
What if I fall again? his paranoid part screamed, but he shook his head and slowly crawled his way over to the trunk as Dovefeather began her trip down.
Reluctantly lifting himself to his still unsheathed claws, he reached out and hooked onto the branch, one of his white-tipped ears flicking when he heard Dovefeather's faint voice. "Be careful!" he heard her call.
Uttering a quick, quiet prayer to their warrior ancestors for safety, he hooked himself to the tree and slowly began to inch down the tree, cringing at any breeze, or even the call of a bird.
Finally, he made it down to the branch Dovefeather had first climbed on. Voleheart sidled his way onto the branch, never so thankful to see the ground closer than it had been. "Thank StarClan," he breathed, turning his head to look down at Dovefeather, sitting on her branch.

Dovefeather held her breath as the other tom slowly edged his way downward, finally reaching her old branch. Just like him, she had also sent a silent prayer to StarClan, begging for them not to end Voleheart's life now. The she-cat released the air and felt her bristling fur lie flat. Giving him a glance of congratulations, she easily bounded the short length down. Once she felt the fluffy, crispy grass underpaw once more, she flopped onto it with a cry of joy. Slowly she turned around, the grass crunching under her back, and she stared up at Voleheart, her eyes warm.
"The ground's waiting for you," She mewed, smiling.
As she awaited him to take the few easy strokes down the tree, her eyes moved to the deep scratch marks imprinted into the ashy bark, and she let out a sigh. Oh, we'll remember this day, all right! Especially Voleheart! Her green eyes narrowed against the sun as she stared up at the branch they had both been on, it looked so horrible from this view! The little thing looked even more worn and was drooping miserably downward.
It wouldn't be too long before it fell. Another memory?

Voleheart watched as Dovefeather made her way down to the ground and immediately flopped into the grass with a cry of joy. His paws were suddenly itching to feel the crisp grass underneath.
"The ground's waiting for you," he heard Dovefeather mew, and a soft purr rose in his throat, the ends of his mouth tugging into a smile as he hooked himself onto the bark and easily climbed down.
He flopped onto his belly in the grass beside the white she-cat, stretching out his forelegs and laying his chin in the grass. "I never thought I'd be so happy to have my paws on the ground again," Voleheart sighed cheerfully, his white tipped ears flicked forwards when he sneezed, due to the grass tickling at his pink and grey splotched nose. Silently thanking his warrior ancestors for sparing his life, he rolled onto his side, looking up at the large tree from the corner of one amber eye.

Dovefeather purred as he flung himself onto the ground with her; she never knew the grass, the dirt, and the scent of the earth could be so heavenly. She buried herself deeper into the green and let out a cheerful sigh, "You got that right," She replied, turning and rolling onto her side so that he faced each other. Although, she cocked her head so that she could view the tree again, and she shuddered at the result. "I'm never, ever climbing that again!" She paused, her green eyes glittering, "Except to visit it, maybe."
She let out a mrrow of laughter. "Kidding!"
As she sunk through her layers of bliss, all the way back to reality, she suddenly realized she had gotten him to lighten up! Dovefeather opened her eyes, watching his amber ones, and she felt the warmth of happiness seep through her pelt and warm her pads.

Voleheart let his muscles relax, lying limp with his head pressed into the grass and his ears flicked up as he finally opened his amber eyes once more and peered up at the tree. "Heh. I'm never climbing ANY tree again, after that." he grunted, giving a small mrrow of laughter at her joke.
Truthfully, he was just happy to still be alive. StarClan knew he could have died today.
Voleheart closed his amber eyes again, feeling the weak rays of the sun warming his pelt. The cat's tail swished through the grass, the feeling of being watched overwhelming him. After a second of basking, he opened his amber eyes to look back at Dovefeather, one of his white-tipped ears giving a curious flick.

Dovefeather felt the blood rush to her face and she closed her eyes, "Erm... sorry," She mumbled, although she smiled. After a hesitated moment, her eyes fluttered open and the bright green was visible again. "It's really pretty out here..." She commented, trying to break the awkwardness that suddenly decided to twist her mind.
