Battooth let out a mrrow of laughter as Lilacpaw chanted. "We're gonna take a break," he informed the she-cat. "We've gotta rest so we can train some more later. But I don't think the elders would mind if you took them some prey. You can come back and eat afterwards."
The obsidian tom turned away fromthe apprentice as Rainfeather approached. "Hi Rainfeather!" he said cheerily. "Training went well! Lilacpaw's already an amazing hunter. She caught a mouse nearly as soon as we got out." He beamed at his apprentice and then looked back at Rainfeather. "How was your day?" he asked.

Lilacpaw nodded as her mentor instructed her in what she was supposed to do. Sending a glance in Rainfeather's direction, Lilacpaw padded off and grabbed a few pieces of fresh-kill. The scents wafted up to her nose and made her mouth water, although Lilacpaw attempted with all she could to not get her slobber all over the scrawny thrush and vole that she was carrying. Even though it was hardly a morsel, the elders would most likely find it inviting.
"Well, there's been worse," a voice growled in greeting to her. Lilacpaw looked up to see a tomcat elder seated in the shadows [unplayed]. Dropping the fresh-kill in the center of the den, Lilacpaw quickly padded out.
Lilacpaw hurried to the fresh-kill pile yet again. There weren't many choices; just a few pieces of fresh-kill were left. She selected a skinny mouse and looked around for her sister -- Hazelpaw -- to share the piece of meat with.

"It was fine", Rainfeather replied. "I wish I had an apprentice though. Maybe Hazelpaw, then she and Lilacpaw could train together!" Rainfeather mewed excitedly, trying to match Battooth's energy.
Hazelpaw sat at the edge of camp, grooming her medium length calico fur. She had been doing this for quite some time, making her pelt glow. She looked over with emerald eyes to see her sister, Lilacpaw lookink around for her. "Hey, Lilacpaw!", she called to the blue-furred apprentice. "Come on over here!"

Lilacpaw gave an excited yelp as she heard her sister calling for her. She dipped her head down and picked up the scrawny mouse, padding over quickly in Hazelpaw's direction. Once she reached her sister, she dropped the piece of fresh-kill at Hazelpaw's paws. "Want to share?" she asked, eager to start eating.

Battooth laughed as he realized what Rainfeather was trying to do. "Don't make fun of me!" he meowed, swiping playfully at the she-cat's ears, clearly showing he was joking. He rolled on the ground, somehow ending up with his head directly beneath Rainfeather's chin. "You should ask Maplestar if you can mentor her," he meowed calmly, his tail flicking back and forth.

Rainfeather's eyes glinted with playfulness, and batted at Battooth's large ears, then tripped, ending up on the ground, her muzzle touching his. She drew it away quickly, embarressed. (If cats could blush, her cheeks would be deathberry red)
"Sure!" Hazelpaw mewed, suddenly realizing how hungry she was. "So, how was training?" she asked. "I wish I had a mentor", She mewed, looking around. "I like Rainfeather, she's real nice. And if she mentors me, maybe we could train together!" She mewed, excitement tingling her fur.

It took Lilacpaw a while to answer, for she had ducked her head down and had taken a small, dainty bite from the mouse. She chewed for a while then swallowed, savoring the tastes that were left in her mouth. "Training was great!" she chirruped cheerfully. "I learned a whole lot, thanks to Battooth. He's an /awesome/ mentor!" Lilacpaw stole a glance in her mentor's direction, seeing the same playfulness that seemed to be almost mirrored within her. Battooth was surely the correct mentor for her -- they were both bubbly, easily entertained, and just all-around hyper.

Battooth squirmed from beneath Rainfeather and stood as soon as he was able. He sat down and gave his chest a brisk washing to hide his embarassment. His ears burned and he stayed quiet for an unncharacteristically long time. He finally finished and looked up. He cleared his throat once before saying, "I think you should really talk to Maplestar. Hazelpaw would be as good as yours." He stayed quiet for another long moment before meowing, "I have to go."
The obsidian tom turned away from the she-cat and ran to the warrior's den. He had felt more than just the other cat's warmth when Rainfeather had touched him, and he didn't like it. The last times he had felt like this, it had been with his mother and father and sister, and they had all been taken away from him. Battooth was, in short, terrified of the feeling, and terrified of the consequences.
The lanky tom curled up in his nest, with his face towards the back wall, so anyone coming in would think he was asleep. He prayed to StarClan no one would come in.

"Yeah", Hazelpaw looked over at Battooth, then at Rainfeather,. She seemed to be...Blushing! "Hey, Lilacpaw, i think Rainfeather likes Battooth!" She mewed, amusement glinting in her emerald eyes. Then she saw Battooth walk off to the Warriors den. "What do you think happened?" she asked, worry blocking out the amusement in her eyes.

Lilacpaw purred as she saw her mentor with the she-cat warrior, then blinked with surprise as Battooth padded into the warriors' den, leaving Rainfeather standing. She tilted her head to the side and considered her mentor for a moment. When he had entered the den, he hadn't had a look of anger or depression on his face -- it looked more like anxiety. "Battooth is probably shy," Lilacpaw meowed sympathetically towards the tomcat warrior.

Rainfeather looked at Battooth for a moment. She wanted to go talk to him, but wondered if he was angry. She walked over to Maplestar's her usually light steps heavy, and her tail drooping in the dirt.

A small figure ambled out of the apprentices den, looking affectionately at Hazelpaw with golden eyes. "Hiya, Hazelpaw. Hi, Lilacpaw", he mewed to the she-cats. "So, di you get a mentor yet?" He mewed to Hazelpaw.

Realizing Littlepaw's affection for Hazelpaw at the fact that he gazed at Hazelpaw and asked Hazelpaw questions isntead of her, Lilacpaw quickly sent a flick of her tail and ears in Hazelpaw's direction before padding off. Excitement for her sister flitted around in her mind, but she couldn't help feel a little jealous -- when would she have a tomcat that liked her for her bubbly and hyper self?

"No, not yet", Hazelpaw admitted sadly. "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get one soon. Everyone likes you", Littlepaw mewed, not even flicking his ears in aknolegement to Lilacpaw's leaving. Hazelpaw. "Hello?" Hazelpaw mewed in anger. "Aren't you going to at least say /goodbye/ to my sister? You could stop paying attention to me for a while?" "Oh, right, sorry", Littlepaw mewed, sadness making his voice heavy. He padded off, his tail hanging low. Hazelpaw didn't realize how much he liked her, and thought he was just being rude to her sister.
Hazelpaw padded over to her sister. "Whats wrong?" She asked, seeing the look of sadness - or jealousy on her sisters face.

Lilacpaw's expression instantly changed as her sister drew near. She purred with amusement. "Littlepaw's sweet on you, Hazelpaw, don't you realize that?" she meowed, delight for her sister passing through her lilac colored eyes, although it was still slightly dulled by the fact that she felt deprived of having a tomcat to like.
